Nothing Better to Do Lyrics

Hung my cotton dress on rusted wire
Up there on Pilahatchee Bridge
Just a crazy roughneck's daughter
Jumped head first into the water
Baptized away my sins

Hitched to town with Bobby Jo and Tommy
Couple of lookers, new best friends
We slipped in the back of Sunday service
Know them church ladies, they heard us
Bum smoke money from the offering

Chorus:

Momma said "Idle hands are devil's handywork,
oh the trouble you'll get into
When you've got
Nothin' better to do, got nothin' better to do
You got nothing better to do, got nothin' better to do"
Yeah

Sign read: BAIT, CHIPS, BEER and AMMUNITION
That Slim Jim bag boy had no prayer.
Well I hiked my skirt and did the talkin'
While them boys were busy walkin'
Case of .5 out the back door

Hid deep in the Mississippi backwoods
We danced and played around 'til dark
Well I had them wrestlin' for my first kiss
Turned into a fight and they missed
Me speeding off in Tommy's car

(Repeat Chorus)

Nobody hurt, nobody harmed
Nobody's business but my own

(Repeat Chorus)

This is a great song! I think it's the girl in the song [in the video, I believe LeAnn's stage name is Annie Jewel] telling her fellow inmates her story, what happened during her adolescence that kind of paved her path to prison. That's what I think, based on the video.

Based on the song itself, it just sounds like a song telling of her past (not LeAnn's real past, as we know she's been in the spotlight since she was 13), and all the trouble she got into during her misfit adolescence. Also, it's kind of one of those songs where she's saying, "This is who I am, I've made mistakes, I've been a troublemaker, but I am myself, and I am free."

LeAnn plays a character in the song named Annie Jewel. The song tells the story of Annie Jewel's teenage years when she broke the law and that explains why she's in prison. I also think it takes place in the 1940s because of the women's hairstyles. I agree with amandamw04. She's also saying "I am myself and I make no apologies for that." in the song. Really great song. I like it.

love this song too-"momma said idle hands are devivis handywork"freakin' genius. love lyris-even better than i thought it would be(had to look up lyrics, can only understand single word)

The only problem with that -- the actual cliche is, "Idle hands are the devil's WORKSHOP". (Or I've also seen it "devil's playground".) Little bit different meaning there. (And it bugs me to no end every time I hear this song. I think I need help ...)

There are many different ways of saying the cliche. "Devil's tools" or simply "Devil's work"
