If you were born in the 80s you are of consent age is correct but also it wasn't until 1986 that the age variable was added to the laws of consent. Meaning, you could be 40 years old pre-1986 and still have a relationship with someone as young as you wanted provided it was consensual. That's where the whole it was acceptable at the time line comes from.

This song was released in '07. If you were born in 1990, you would have been 17 years old. Thus, being born in AT LEAST '89 would have made you 18, thus legal.
But isn't the age of consent 16 or 17 in the UK?

I checked on wikipedia (as it is God) and it says that the song was RECORDED in 2006, therefore making the age of consent fit in with the song. However the line "it was acceptable at the time" is something I'm confused about, I thought it might be to do with sexuality? I dunno if that's the case, im just clutching at straws :)
