I just realized the reference to an earlier Avett's tune:

I always felt like the Beatles lyrics were simple and clean, to the point and conveyed the complexity of their emotions without becoming to evlevated.
For me, this song does exactly that.

There's a connection between the 2 songs. When they sing "I meant what I said when I said I would rearrange my plans and change for you", we can ear a door closing (from the truck) Remember when they say in "If its the Beaches"...He promises her everything while he go "gas up the truck Pack the old love letters up;We will read them when we forget why we left here".I think it is and its beautiful. I know this is a love song and, in a way, all love songs are very similar but it's refreshing to hear one of a different sort. This is the only song I've come across that describes exactly what happened in a chapter of my life and exactly how I felt about it all so perfectly. When I first listened to it I was talking to a friend while it was playing and when I heard the line "And I know we are young but we won't always be so marry me", I turned it up and started it over. I was just baffled to hear how perfectly it applied. Anyways, that's why I appreciate this song a lot.
they probably just wrote 2 maybe more songs about the same girl/instance in their life.
I wish i could have written those lyrics or have the talent to just write one like this in my lifetime
Continuing the discussion about the relationship between I Would Be Sad and If It's The Beaches. These might be relation to other Avett Brothers songs as well. November Blue is about leaving a girl behind and it being a very hard separation. Denouncing November Blue is a follow up from that one and says "I left town she stayed behind, I said I'd call, she said she'd try. We lost touch the moment I drove off."
In I Would Be Sad, Scott sings "if she doesn't call, than its her fault, and its her loss." Just a thought.
