Headache for Michelle Lyrics

Got a bad taste in my mouth,
I got a heavy heavy heavy heavy heavy head - won't go away.
I can't remember much about last night,
but I'm trying to regain a little self-control today.

I got out of my head, I got out of my head, I got out of my head..
I got out..
last night

They are coming amongst amongst amongst amongst
and in between us.
They're tapping our phones, tapping our phones, tapping our phones
you can be sure they've seen us.

Are you working, are you working, are you working
for or with the state.
They're selling you smack at a slightly, slightly, slighty, slightly cheaper rate
'Cos you're not a threat when you're out of your head
and I'm gonna get out of my head
and it's better in bed - when you're out of your head
and Malcolm is dead - he got out of his heaaaad!

Out of his head..

They are closing down - communications
They're taking control - of our situations
The forces of control are gathering around our heads

(i'm gonna get out of my head..)

I as well wish there were more comments on this song.

I've always thought this song was about someone waking up the day after binging on drugs - probably heroin. But there are also a lot of references here to government control. I believe there is something here having to do with keeping political radicals on drugs so that they have less political motivation. I just wish I knew what the line about selling you smack at slightly different rate was all about. I assume that it's another reference to the government, but I want more details.

There was a belief at the time, perhaps not unfounded, that Thatcher's government didn't care about people taking heroin because it kept them quiet so they were happy to have cheap smack on the streets. Swap the job you got made redundant from for smack or the job you would never have. They only started talking heroin seriously when some Tory MP's daughter ODed at Cambridge. When it started to come close to home for them.

@ian1049761 yes I agree. It fits the era and the band. these lyrics generally seem like vignettes conversation or thoughts. Just wonder who Michelle and Malcom are.. ;)

@blackaliss I always assumed Malcolm referred to Malcolm Owen of The Ruts who died of a heroin OD a year prior to the release of this song.

Can't believe no one commented Have no idea what the song could be about.. maybe the person has done something wrong "Got a bad taste in my mouth" "I got a heavy heavy heavy head- won't go away" The person is trying to forget about what happened, and whatever it is has been going on for too long - heavy head great song
