Bat's Mouth Lyrics
The caves of our mouths are forest darkness
And the air in between is overflowing
And the rushing wolverine flies past
His shiny shiny teeth
And she is kind, and he is free and full of knowing
She is sure
She is sure
The caves of our mouths are bear’s bellies
And the air in between is spewing comets
And the dancing centaur queen flies past
Her tiny tiny teeth
And he is kind, and she is free and wants to show him
She is sure
She is sure
She is sure
She is sure
Find him in the bat’s mouth
He is singing in her bat's mouth
He is shaking and dancing in her bat mouth
Getting tired and sleepy in her bat mouth
And she's holding him tight in her bat arms
She is wrapping him up in her bat arms
And she’s thanking her mother sea
"Thank you, mother sea, for letting him see the sea in me"
She is sure

I think it's just about the rising passion between two lovers, and each stage is shown in the verses through imagery/metaphors.
The first verse says "The caves of our mouths are forest darkness / And the air in between is overflowing", which hints they're not too close yet, but there is an obvious longing for one another.
The second verse states "The caves of our mouths are bear's bellies", this means the bear is hungry after hibernation and wants to leave the cave. This symbolizes their hunger for one another, and quite possibly how they are beginning to feel sexually charged. This is only emphasized with the line, "And the air in between is spewing comets" - no longer is there only air overflowing between them, but now there are comets. This represents the intense, rising feelings shared between the two lovers.
In the Third verse, just like how the music picks up, the lyrics climax as well. This is the final act - whatever it may be. The lovers could simply be kissing or having sex here, I'm not sure but it is some passionate act nonetheless.
"Thank you mother sea for letting him see the sea in me" - an absolutely beautiful line to finish it off as well!
I hope that makes sense? I'm not the best at explaining these things - but that's how I see it.
I agree, it starts with some gentle kissing and becomes more passionate. Bears bellies are empty in hibernation and then need filling! To say their mouths are like bears bellies is like saying the mouths are craving something... This might be kisses, or something a bit more dirty minded - sorry to be a perv! Just my opinion.

I also think the song is loaded with sexual imagery. The song describes sex as a beautiful act, something from the magic of natural. It's about the forces of nature that bring two people together into the same space, and working their magic to bring together physically.
Everything in the first two verses seems to concentrate on the mouths of the boy and girl, as they move towards each other for their first kiss. From within their bodies, from within their souls, comes the male force of nature: the rushing wolverine; and the female: the dancing centaur queen. These come tumbling out of their mouths, into the forest darkness of the air in between - the only thing separating them physically.
I think the references to bats and bears are other sexual/nature symbols - both these animals live in the caves of their mouths.
I think this first part of the song is about that electric moment before the kiss. There's a charge in the atmosphere or desire and attraction that is inexplicable.
The second part of the song may be about the progression from kissing to sex. The imagery is very beautiful and pure - an exquisite description of physical love.
obviously, its a metaphor for sex (albeit a bizarre one).
the girl is thankful for her origin, or "mother sea" (feminity) and what it allows her to feel and do. very sylvan/ woodland kind of imagery implies that the two have artlessly reverted to their roots, and all of the forest-creature metaphors entail the blundering innocence of animals.
thought this song needed lyrics on this site, so i tried my best...
tell me the ??? and any mistakes i've made
seems pretty accurate to me, except i hear the line 'in between is overflowing and the rush of the...?' (can't work out the next words)
here's how i think it goes. start of second verse is the hardest for me to make any sense of. natasha often switches around her pronouns, so it gets confusing very quickly.
The caves of our mouths are forests, Darkness and the air, In between this sofa, Flowing and the rushing, Over me flies past, his shiny shiny teeth, She is kind, he is free Full of knowing
She is sure (x2)
The caves of our mouths are bears (?) barelys (?) and the air, In between this spewing, Comets and the dancing, Centre queen flies past, her tiny tiny teeth He is kind, she is free Wants to show him
She is sure (x3)
Find him in the bats mouth He is singing in her bats mouth He is shaking and dancing in a bat mouth Getting tired and sleepy in a bat mouth And she’s holding him tight in her bat arms She is wrapping him up in her bat arms And she is thanking her mother See, thank you mother, see, for needing him See, we'll see in me
She is sure (x8)
could it be
thanking her Mother Sea thank you Mother Sea! for letting him see The sea in me
What a song!

She is sure She is sure She is sure She is sure She is sure She is sure She is sure She is sure
i think that might be right, but human error and all that.
I think the sexual reference is too specific, but agree that the imagery is probably related to a love affair.
Could the "bears" represent the constellations of ursa major and ursa minor?
