This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines:

So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other:

I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

i know with me, i let love go, i got as far away from it before i could get too close, or in too deep. in a way i was trying to protect myself from losing him or feeling too much pain, because if i let go then maybe i could feel nothing rather than feeling like i lost him, i think this only hurts you more. because love is love, no matter how strong, it hurts to have it taken away, aswell as having the pain of thinking "what if?, what if i never left?, could it have lasted forever, could i have never hurt at all?"

i think this means your heart, or you, will subconciously always try to protect itself, keeping itself away from love to keep it away from pain, it will keep you from getting in too deep, but you will never know what could have been, or how much you will end up hurting in the end, you just wont know unless you let yourself love.

maybe this is saying she fell in love with this idea, but realized she was getting to attached, in too deep, and like her heart, she let it go, she let it go away. but she would never know what could have become of it, and by the time she sees the beauty it pocessed, it was already gone. it was somebody elses. you love, you lose, you learn. but you can love again, and this time youll know, this time your heart will know.
