Sleep Walking Elite Lyrics

Rushed then told
They're bred to continue,
Be at their marks
But some withhold and won't be held under the spell

Bribes when tried
They focused on the burning of a man
'Til now, got left
inside the underbelly's choke

Well you assumed
At least they'll call us
Men again
For all shadows
That keep on crawling
Out from under cloaks

Behold rest assured
The sleep walking elite
When their days
Are numbered like the shallow
When they sit
On their knees
On their knees
On their knees

As they sit
On their knees
On their knees
On their knees

Well you assumed
At least they'll call us
Men again
For all shadows
That keep on crawling
Out from under cloaks

Cloaks

Well you assumed
At least they'll call us
Men again
For all shadows
That keep on crawling
Out from under...

Well you assumed
At least they'll call us
Men again
For all shadows
That keep on crawling
Out from under...

It think it's about conformity. The people who want to be elite, but do so by going through life in the dark (hence, they're sleepwalking), under the cloaks of shadows. They think if they become part of this sleepwalking elite, they can be considered cool again.

i think it could possibly be about how record exects want them to conform and do whats "popular" but they keep crawling out from under those "cloaks"

This is my favorite on Vena Sera too...

I actually think this songs about religion; how depending on whom a person is born too is what religion they worship and the part about on their knees referencing worshiping...

I see this song as something deeper...more of the perspective of a child who is born into money...and with that money into the conformity of it...the expectations the wealth and circumstance entails.

In the first verse, they explain the child's resistance to this.

In the second verse, it shows our tendency to recognize, and then dismiss, that such pressures/judgment do not define who we are. This is supported by lines like 'They focused on the burning of a man.' This discusses what he views them doing, taking his self-development away for others' perception. The next line...'Til now, got left, inside the underbelly's choke' means he eventually succumbs to the pressure.

The fact that he assumes they'll call him a man again... by taking the money and the lifestyle afforded he won't be looked down on by his wealthy parents/other affluent acquaintances, though he now must abide by their judgment.

In a yearning for self development without fear of judgment, these persecuting judgers are shadows that keep crawling out from under cloaks, watching for any misstep.

Then the question remains, what is it to be called a man and by whom is it important?
