Schizophrenia Lyrics

I want it all and I want nothing, all at the same time, because I am the one that they warned me about
I won't ask for any handouts, I'll take what I need in time, because I am the one that they warned me about.

It just goes on and on

I am my own worst enemy.
I sink my teeth into the hand that feeds.
I curse and praise in the same breath.
Which man in the mirror is the one that's left?

Now it's never too late for coming clean, I'll let you in but I won't let you out.
I bottled up all of regrets and I threw them into the sea, I'll let you in but I won't let you out.

And it goes on and on.

I am my own worst enemy.
I sink my teeth into the hand that feeds.
I curse and praise in the same breath.
Which man in the mirror is the one that's left?

Well just let me tell you, pretty baby, the only thing holding me back was my pride, and I can assure you, pretty baby, that it's much better to be a fool in their eyes.

I am my own worst enemy.
I sink my teeth into the hand that feeds.
I curse and praise in the same breath.
Which man in the mirror is the one that's left?

If all you are is a little confused, then all your sins are excused

That's what you thought, well didn't you?

I was just looking at that same line and thinking that it does seem a bit weird. But as I stared at it for a while this thought hit me, so I'll try to articulate.

Being confused could be considered a type of mental illness, as minor as it actually is. So, because all humans are under the condition of "schizophrenia", or more accurately "spiritual schizophrenia", then we all need God to correct that in our lives. I think he is emphasizing a bit on working for salvation, where some people think that "as long as I'm only 'confused' and not 'schizophrenic', then God will forgive me and I can be with him", and so "that's what you thought, well didn't you?" You thought that as long as you weren't messed up, God would accept you, but the reality is that you ARE screwed up (Schizophrenic), BUT God accepts and forgives you anyway!

1st:

I like the riff in this song, I'm not too clear on what it means, but I'm catching a whiff of something like this:

The things we do to build ourselves up and our pride destroy us and keep us from being the people God wants us to be. "It's better to be a fool in their eyes" implies that not fitting in with the world is ok and even good

Schizophrenia is defined as "contradictory or antagonistic qualities or attitudes." It's different then multiple personalities, but similar. It's when a person's attitudes are so contradictory, it's like they are a completely different person. Well, that is what this song is about. It's talking about our flesh and spirit. It's like Apostle Paul says "for what I want to do I do not." In the song it says several things that are contradictory. "I want it all and I want nothing, all at the same time.""I curse and praise in the same breath," and so on. It's actually rather sel-explanatory. Just read into it a little bit.

"If all you are is a little confused, then all your sins are excused"

Is that really what he's trying to say? It doesn't make sense to me.

Just read the next line.

"If all you are is a little confused, then all your sins are excused That's what you thought, well didn't you?"

I still don't get it. Sounds as if he is serious...

Maybe....

When he says "If all you are is a little confused, then all your sins are excused That's what you thought, well didn't you?"

What if that is meaning as if you think you believe in God and know about Jesus and you were a little "confused" about it since you never paid much attention to it and thought your sins would be "excused" anyways. If you get what I am trying to say. And that follow up line, "That's what you thought, well didn't you?" is like saying that's what you though and it's saying it in a way as if he is saying "Thats what you thought, right, think again." In that same tone.

Something Like That. :)
