How Much? Lyrics

Sleep on now
I heard that a knee makes a good pillow
When your down
And do you like it
When someone tickles your arm?
Curl your locks of hair round and round

You're so tired
Let me straighten out your shirt
As your chest rises up and down

I don't get it either
But someday we'll learn
How the earth spins round and round

You need to fall
Thats what people always say

You don't know anything at all
you haven't felt the pain

When should I crawl.
When should I take the final blow.
When is it bad enough.
To earn the right to show.

How hard should I fall
Before it's my turn to be heard.
How much pain should I show on my face
Before you listen to a word.
How bad should I hurt?
How much is enough?

You just jerked.
I hope you're dreaming.
But isn't drowning all we've earned?
I won't close my eyes till you lay still, and I won't cry.
I've been through nothing.
I haven't witnessed a full stab.
I need to experience something before I get laughed at.

You need to fall.
That's what people always say

You don't know anything at all
you haven't felt the pain

When should I crawl.
When should I take the final blow.
When is it bad enough.
To earn the right to show.

How hard should I fall
Before it's my turn to be heard.
How much pain should I show on my face
Before you listen to a word.

When should I crawl.
When should I take the final blow.
When is it bad enough.
To earn the right to show.

How bad should I hurt?
How much is enough?

Beautiful song. Just reading the song straight off, seems like it means-- That there's pain in the world, and when's it all gonna be enough before it's okay to show that we're actually in pain. Or something along those lines.

But when I first heard this song, for some reason I kept thinking the girl was by somebody's dying bedside (or sick bedside) and is feeling pain at the thought of them in pain. And is wondering how long until the pain (at seeing them in pain) will be enough and go away.

Just my take on it :/

I think this song has a very deep meaning. the meaning of this song is how I feel in life. I think it is about someone feeling pain. Pain because they are like outcasts, and always get put down, and trouble fitting in. But then there's this one person that is always there for them. But also they want someone else for once to hear them, and see how they are feeling.

ok so I wanna start off saying that I love Meg & Dia :) their lyrics are so easy for me to relate to. In my opinion this song is about someone going through something very difficult physically and emotionally. And they are calling out for help but no one seems to notice. Hence the lyrics: "How hard should I fall Before it's my turn to be heard. How much pain should I show on my face Before you listen to a word."

Just how I interpret the song. Haha I could be wrong.
