I'm Not Lyrics
I'm not ready for it
But then ever I could be?
I'm not
No name for her
But as it comes
We'll name each after its way
As with all else
Any piece has its place and form to fill
But then ever I could be?
But as it comes
We'll name each after its way
Any piece has its place and form to fill

I'm not either.
Just discovered the source of the opening vocal sample to this song: S01E06 of the British comedy show the Mighty Boosh: the music that comes on when the character Howard Moon looks at a photo of kittens to squelch an angry fit. One of the side stories in the episode is two pandas being coerced into breeding.
Wow, beautiful. Perhaps this is about not being ready for a child? I'm not certain, but anyhow, what a gorgeous song.
I agree, definitely sounds like he's not ready to be a father.. Ohh this song is utterly sublime.
The sound that pops in between him delivering the lyrics kind of sounds like a heavily processed baby's voice.
one of my favourite songs by the way:)
Why doesn't this song have more comments? it's amazing. Yeah i agree with the whole idea that it's him saying he's not ready to be a father. The voice in the background is awesome.
Beautiful, beautiful song. At first I had no idea what this song was meant to be about. But after reading the lyrics thoroughly I understand how it could be him saying he isn't ready to have a child. Panda Bear is amazing.
The opening vocal is actually a French Motet by Guillaume de Machaut from the 14th century called "Rose, Liz, Printemps"
I heared the motet in medieval music class, I just couldn't believe it.... this guy is amazing!!!!!
You're right, Tangee. The first time I heard it I recognized that motet instantly. My music history professor would have been so proud!

I think everyone is right about this song's topic being about fatherhood. But it's not just him saying, "I'm not ready for fatherhood, period." He's saying, "I'm scared. I'm not ready for fatherhood. I may never be ready for fatherhood." But: "No name for her, but as it comes we'll name each after its way," and "as with all else, any piece has its place and form to fill."
He may not be ready, and he may be scared, but he's not going to run away and hide from it, either. He'll take it as it comes. But he'll be honest about how he feels about it, too.
The theme pops up everywhere on this album: life is so uncertain, and it's scary, but you just have to take life as it comes, whatever it may throw at you, good and bad alike, and in the meantime, be honest about it and face it.
