Earth Intruders Lyrics
we are the earth intruders
we are the earth intruders
muddy with twigs and branches
turmoil! carnage!
here come the earth intruders
we are the paratroopers
stampede of sharpshooters
comes right from voodoo
with our feet thumping
with our feet marching
grinding skeptics into the soil
shower of goodness
coming to end the doubt pouring over
shower of goodness coming to end
we are the earth intruders
we are the sharp shooters
flock of parashooters
necessary voodoo
I have guided my bones
through some voltage
and loved them still
and loved them too
metallic carnage!
feriocity!
feel the speed!
we are the earth intruders
we are the sharp shooters
flock of parashooters
necessary voodoo
there is turmoil out there
carnage! rambling!
what is to do but dig
dig bones out of earth
mudgraves! timber!
morbid trenches!
here come the earth intruders
stampede of resistance
we are the canoneers
necessary voodoo
and the beast
with many heads
and arms rolling
steamroller!
we are the earth intruders
we are the earth intruders
muddy with twigs and branches
(forgive this tribe)
we are the earth intruders
we are the earth intruders
muddy with twigs and branches
we are the earth intruders
muddy with twigs and branches
we are the earth intruders
we are the earth intruders
muddy with twigs and branches
marching
we are the earth intruders
muddy with twigs and branches
marching
march
march

I wasn't sure what to think of this song at first- while it has a KILLER beat and awesome vocals, the message of the song was a bit unclear.
After a bit of consideration I think I've figured out an interpretation that seems to fit it best. I believe that the "Earth Intruders" she speaks of are us humans, killing the Earth we live on and causing destruction and turmoil to the plants and animals. "Digging bones out of the ground" and "Necessary voodoo" were two lines that had me thinking for a while but I think that digging bones out of the ground is a way to describe us destroying the Earth in an attempt to find such things as fossils and fossil fuels; necessary voodoo is causing destruction and death in an attempt to tame the wilderness and/or cause war as a means to get what we want from places that we shouldn't.
And the line, "Forgive this tribe" seems to be a desperate attempt of one person who cares to apologize for the acts of the rest of their kind.
Personally I don't see how religion and whatnot can be tied into this, it doesn't seem to go that way at all.
Björk is known for her love and understanding for mother nature. She is one step ahead from all the rest. And then she uses her 'call in life', music. I find it amazing that so many artists get the bigger picture... I think everything could be about to change.
This song is the anthem of the Nephilim, sung from their perspective.
The Titans, the Pagan Creators, the Didanum, the Golden Ones, the ancestors of Osiris, the Feathered Serpents, the Watchers, the fathers of Gigantes, The Fallen Angels, those who from Heaven to Earth came. They descended from the sky, armed and ready to invade; the Paratroopers.
They come to subdue the Earth. Their right to rule is good and necessary in their own hearts. They taught men the art of war, of sorcery, of voodoo and enchantments, and made known to men the metals of the Earth. They birthed terrible monsters by mixing man with beast; they electrified their bones.
They are the Unforgiven Tribe. They are bound in chains in the Abyss. Some still hear their shouts from Tartarus. They will soon be set free, released by the Beast with Seven Heads. They march over the bodies of all resistors. They are muddied with blood and soil. They are the intruders over all the Earth.
The song is a masterpiece. It is also Pagan seduction.
THIS IS INSANE. I love it. She is incapable of dissapointing.
P.S. I hear this leak is just the radio-cut and that the actually release is over a minute longer so you might have to edit this come may.
It's about humans uniting as one species, one tribe, returning almost to our primitive states, and just setting the world straight
...back to the happy way natural way the world was before empires and organized religion fcked everything up
hmmmm... I totally thought the song was about oil when she said things like "earth intruders," "shower of goodness," "dig bones out of earth," and "mudgraves." Also, I thought the bubbling sound in the beginning of the song was supposed to be the sound coming from an old crude oil pump.

she did an interview with xfm and talked about this song, but lilmerboy got it right. she seems to be venturing back to the more extroverted music, as a change from vespertine and medulla. love that she's attacking negativity with positivity with this song, and from what i hear, the whole new album too. can't wait for volta :)
Actually, I don't necessarily understand the lyrics as an all-positive outlook on humanity. Already the song title gives suggests that to me. And turmoil and carnage probably aren't something many of us want.
The song also mentions muddy graves, morbid trenches and "grinding the skeptics into the soil". Plus there is the line "Forgive this tribe" which, at least the way I understand it, refers to the human race. The high-energy beat is also kind of aggressive.
Anyway, this is a great song, and if the rest of Volta is even anywhere near as good, it may well be the best album coming out this year.
I don't really think the lyrics make sense. The title suggests that humans are intruding and destroying the earth - and most of the lyrics suggest that too. But then these negativ intrudes seems to do good things like 'shower goodness' and grind sceptics into the soil?!?!?!?
lboogy-- grinding skeptics into the soil is a good thing? hmmmm.
Turmoil and carnage can be good. Order is not always good. It traps people in routines and can be a bad thing which causes life to stagnate. You can have creative destruction, chaos opens the doorway to change and maybe that is whay she touches upon in this song?
It's a brilliant song.
