All In Your Rows Lyrics

So it's stars and crosses
Reasoning for losses
You learn right from wrong
Then you write the book yourself
Right the wrongs you know,

But then you're all in your rows
All in your rows
All in your row-oh-ohs
All in your rows
All in your row-oh-ohs

Domination fading with war-torn tradition
Picking holes in holy
And in blinkered vision
You left us standing with no understanding
There's no give
There's no give

And then you're all in your rows
All in your rows
All in your row-oh-ohs
All in your rows
All in your row-oh-ohs

City-scape and country-side
We've got local boys, they're going nationwide
So here's your church and here's your steeple
And you're locking your doors to keep in all the people

Let them go.

easily my favourite song on the album! i find it such a melancholic song even though it has a fun bassline and no directly sad lyrics.

my guess is that it's about how old traditions and formalities (especially in the UK-where the maccabees are situated) that are associated with religion should be removed. all in your rows refers both to the pews in churches and the lead singer being an observer of this. it's a liberal song both personally and politically i think...

basically the end message is probably something like 'don't follow someone elses guidelines, follow your life based on your own experiences/mistakes'

reckon this song is slating the catholic church

"So here's your church and here's your steeple And you're locking your doors to keep in all the people" - kind of suggests that theyre quite oppressive and dogmatic, kind of contradicting the idea of being free in Christ

"You learn right from wrong Then you write the book yourself Right the wrongs you know" - could be about the catechism, why write it when we already have the Bible; is it right to change the word of God so we can "right the wrongs you know", i.e justify our own wrongs

anyone agree?

I agree! :) I think their definitely concentrating on the idea of oppression within the Catholic Church.

this song outlines the political message which every band should have

The maccabees are very liberal in their political views and they believe everyone should like by there own book of rules "You learn right from wrong Then you write the book yourself Right the wrongs you know"

not enough bands with a real political message these days

the Maccabees are my favourite and i'm seeing them on the 7th :)
