A Single Explosion Lyrics

I dreamt last night of sirens
By flashlight I had found you
You just held my hand
By the bright lights in some ICU
Even the planless have a plan
I can't write love songs when I'm on these things
I'm affable, responsible
But hard to be around
It's correctible and they're right you know
It's as easy as it sounds
It's as easy as it sounds
It's all as easy as it sounds

I dreamt last night I saw you
A single spark explosion negotiating with the dead
By the bright lights in some ICU
On my chest you put your head
And said there you are
There you are
There's my heart

From reading Matt's blog, there are a couple of possibilities I can think of. Matt had an experience where he overdosed on some medication, leading to a hospital stay of a few days, which influenced many of the songs on the album (not to mention the title).

My recollection of this blog post is hazy, but I also remember a story of a dream Matt had, where he dreamt of being very sick and kept in a tower, where he was visited by an angel that comforted him. If anyone has seen this story and wants to add to or correct my recollection, please do.

Well, if I remember correctly, this CD was written during a hospital stay when he OD'd in the shower, like the poster said above, so I'm pretty sure this is probably directly relating to that event.

I wonder what the ending means: ? "There you are There's my heart"

Maybe it means someone he really loves came to visit him while he was in the hospital and that person is his heart because he loves him/her so much that he decides to live for that person. ? I dunno

The ending is what she is saying to him as she has her head on his chest. She's recognizing that he is still alive, thus his beating heart. She can hear it beating inside his chest.

At this time Matt had just found out he was bi-polar and was taking medication that wasn't suitable for the disorder. All in all he ended up in the hospital where this album was written, I believe the woman in the song is his mother. I remember reading his blog and he had written about his experience with finding out about his bi-polar disorder/his hospital stay and he mentioned his mother spent a lot of time with him.

Well he said his ex-wife never came to visit him when he was in the hospital after his overdose. I kind of take this song as him talking about what he wished had happened.

He dreams about her coming and showing she actually loved him by being in the ICU with him and putting her head on his chest. But it never happened, so it's kind of a bitter song.

(Or it could be about his mother, but that's not how it feels to me).

This hits home for me. I relate finding that loved one by flashlight, and being hard to be around, and my boyfriend kneeling beside my bed with tears streaming down my face and him forcing a smile as though to say "it's going to be okay"

The very first time I heard this song, the lines "By the bright lights in some ICU Even the planless have a plan" stuck out to me because I am a Death Cab For Cutie fan and in one of their songs entitled "What Sarah Said" it contains the lyrics "And it came to me then That every plan is a tiny prayer to Father Time As I stared at my shoes in the ICU". I was just wondering if the plans reference in this song had any coralation to the death cab song. If so, that is awesome.

yes, because every song ever that has the phrase "ICU" in it is related to each other.

idiot, of course not. The only connection is that they are both songs about hospitals. Speaking of which, why are you out of your room? I can only guess that you are supposed to be in a hospital because you act like you just had your brain surgically removed. And unless you don't begin learning not to be a fucking retarded dipshit i suggest that you hove the rest of your body surgically removed as well and get yourself fed to some cannibalistic tribe in Africa. That or donate it to science (burger king). Oh well, in the meantime go fuck yourself with your daddy's dildo until blood starts squirting out of your ears, you stupid cocksucking faggotfucker.
