23 Lyrics
Twenty-three seconds,
All things we love will die
Twenty-three magic, if you can change your life
Your tainted heart, my tainted love, repent now
How many times?
As long as you live, how many times?
The world will go around
He was a friend of mine, he was a son of god ... he was a son of a gun
Twenty-three seconds,
In you I see a chance
Twenty-three magic, if you change the name of love
Your crazy heart, my crazy love
Your crazy heart, my crazy love, repent now
How many times? As long as you wish
How many times? The world will go around
How many times? As long as you want
How many times? The world will go around
He was a friend of mine, he was a son of a gun ... he was a son of god
Two three
All things we love will die
Twenty-three magic, if you can change your life
How many times?
As long as you live, how many times?
The world will go around
In you I see a chance
Twenty-three magic, if you change the name of love
Your crazy heart, my crazy love, repent now
How many times? As long as you wish
How many times? The world will go around
How many times? As long as you want
How many times? The world will go around

this song must have "23 Enigma" which is the Discordian belief that all events are connected to number 23 from wikipedia.org
i think basically the song talks about how the world changes in every 23 seconds and anyone could make changes in 23 seconds
@chopstickthugz This song changes my life every 23 seconds.. Magical!

I think it must be about the 23 enigma, and this person has the potential of changing his life for good or bad, as in "he is a son of god" but he's also "son of a gun" (hey I'm not trying to be religious in this one, i'm actually atheist)... In 23 seconds he can see all he loves die, change the name of love, change his life..
It seems like this guy dies, I can say this from the beggining "23 seconds, all things we love will die" and she calls him "my love".. Then she speaks of him in a past tense, he WAS son of a gun.. etc.
@girlgettingbitterer Nice! I think you are on to something. Great angle: "... she calls him "my love".. Then she speaks of him in a past tense..." good catch

true, it might be about the "23 enigma". we can constantly take chances/risks that may take few seconds but can change your life forever.
They really do the my bloody valentine justice, and yeah they're jazzmasters, you couldn't tell?
bleh. I miss the blonde redhead I fell in love with. These songs are so damp and stagnant. pond crew. lazy.
A really spooky song. Amazing and good too.
Don't know what it's about.
Probably one of the best Blonde Redhead songs. I adore it.
This is a truly beautiful and mysterious song. I've listened to it for awhile now and I still haven't fully grasped what it means for me. It always seems to speak to a part of me that I can't explain or put into words.
I definitely agree with the idea that life as we know it can be changed in a matter of seconds. Life is short. You can die at any time, so why not shake things up ("23 magic, if you can change your life")? Either way, the world keeps turning.
I also feel this song alludes to a relationship which the singer has conflicted feelings about ("He as a song of God, he was a song of a gun", "Your tainted heart, my tainted love"). How this all ties together is hard to say. It might be a love song, and this message is directed at this man she speaks of. Or perhaps he is gone from her life and this song is a reflection on life and death. Who knows?
*SON of God, not song. Whoops.

This track reminds me a lot of the Lush albums Spooky and Split with a hint of Cocteau Twins tossed in... Just a thought, check them out and see what you think.
i ABSOLUTELY, love this song!
