Elephant Woman Lyrics
Angel won’t you feel for me from your heart
Do return my heart to me
No don’t insist I’m already hurt
It was an accident unfortunate
Angel threw me like a rubber man
Aiming for the ground
Why amuse yourself in such way
No don’t insist I’m already hurt
Don’t remove my head hurts much too much
Well I wouldn’t miss it
I shed no tears for broken me
You never know it my peace of mind
Now inside and outside are matching
No don’t insist I’m already hurt
If you never return it
Will it break your wings
Will you shed no tear for broken me

what this song means to me...well, yes, the narrator's heart has been broken, but i think it is all because she has been led on by this "angel." to me, sexually used because she's an "elephant woman"(ugly girl) and thus seen as an easy target("why amuse yourself in such way?/no, don’t insist, I’m already hurt") and she tries to put a stop to it once she realizes he doesn't really care for her after all. she put so much faith into this person she thought she could trust and believe, that she lets herself be taken advantage of, and then watches as he destroys her self esteem as she finds out he really does think she's ugly and not worth his love("it was an accident unfortunate/angel threw me like a rubber man/aiming for the ground"). she plays it off by saying she won't worry over it("I shed no tears for broken me"), yet at the same time she bitterly asks if he'll ever stop to think about the damage he has inflicted upon her...but she knows that in order for him to acknowledge her pain, it'd mean admitting he has done something wrong, which would damage his image("will it break your wings/will you shed no tear for broken me?")...so she really knows he will never admit nor apologize for what has happened between them.
i love this song so much. the whole tone set by the wall of sound combined with the desperate vocals speak volumes more than even the lyrics could.

Thit song is about a real-life incident that occurred in the early 2000. The singer, which is a horse-rider, fell and was trampled by the horse, breaking her jaw and being forced to a long recovery time. Most of the album "Misery is a butterfly" is reminiscent of the accident, from the title track to "Equus". Anyway, Blonde Redhead rule!!!!

Hard Candy was such a movie to complement this song.

This was the first song I ever heard by this band and it blew me away. I was utterly unprepared for such musical brilliance. The vocals in this song are incredible, but fortunately, that's something I've grown to expect from Blonde Redhead. It rocks.
@Sepulchrave - it’s very satisfying how quickly the music sucks you in and then the vocals surprise you... definitely one of their best :)

The last line of this track makes an excellent ringtone...

I couldn't figure it out at first. It's a beautiful, beautiful song, you can really feel her when she sings it, and know that it came from a real place. I could tell she had been hurt some how, and she is deeply depressed about it, almost as if it's forever. I found out....it was inspired by the movie elephant man and it's music. the singer fell off a horse and broke her jaw, that's what the song is about. "inside and outside,I'm matching" she probably only felt secure about her looks, but now both are shattered in her view. But who is angel? Is it the name of the horse? She might be speaking about a real angel getting entertainment, and not carring that he threw her off. kind of creepy, but the lyrics sound like a person who is so depressed that they are kind of spacy and hopeless....maybe some one else can add some more depth, because I know there's more to the lyrics.....
Angel is the horse. The thing she's missing, her heart, is the will to 'get back on the horse'

This song is SOOOO insanely good in every possible way.

it seems highlydubious got it right, makes perfect sense to me.

this is one of my favorite songs. the beat & lyrics go together so perfectly, it's depressing yet wonderful.

I thought this song was about the girls heart being broken. The 'angel' is the perfect person for her, but they are too perfect, and would never love her because she is just an elephant (ugly) girl.
"If you never return it Will it break your wings Will you shed no tear for broken me "
However, they are still nice to her and feel sorry for her, even though the perfect person will never return her love, and their niceness and caring for her just make her love them even more.
