Turpentine Lyrics

I watch you grow away from me in photographs
And memories like spies
And salt betrays my eyes again
I started losing sleep and gaining weight
And wishing I was was ten again
So I could be your friend again

These days we go to waste like wine
That's turned to turpentine
It's 6am and I'm all messed up
I didn't mean to waste your time
So I'll fall back in line
But I'm warning you we're growing up

I heard you found some pretty words to say
You found your little game to play
And there's no one allowed in
Then just when we believed we could be great
Reality, it permeates
It conquers from within again

These days we go to waste like wine
That's turned to turpentine
Till it's 6am and I'm all messed up
I didn't mean to waste your time
So I'll fall back in line
But I'm warning you, we're growing up

Oh
I know we're ok
Oh
I know we're ok

These days we go to waste like wine
That's turned to turpentine
Till it's 6am and I'm all messed up
I didn't mean to waste your time
So I'll fall back in line
But I'm warning you, we're growing up

yeah, growing up definitely, and its something everyone can relate to, on so many levels. Brandi Carlile is brilliant, this being one of the best songs.

Eh, I like this song... pretty much a lot.

It's easy to relate to.

Meh... growing up.

Fairly easy to understand. But the lyrics are still quite moving and I can relate to them. And I'm sure many others can as well.

i think this song is about like her brother or something who she was really close to when they were young, but when they got older i think like he became an alchoholic or something like that, and it is about how they grew apart... or i know it's about her brother, i'm not positive of the story though. beautiful song.

I believe this song may be about her brother... Like I said under the 'Wasted' Song, I think it may reflect how they were closer when they were younger, and though they've been trying, they haven't been able to heal some sort of rift. It fits from what I heard her say about her 'Wasted' song when I heard an interview on NPR a year or two back, when I was first introduced to her. God bless Brandi.

"I didn't mean to waste your time So I'll fall back in line But I'm warning you, we're growing up" This sounds like someone broke up with her and she's saying "well alright fine, i'll go...but we're not getting any younger, and your making a mistake"

i agree
