Are Two Chords Not Enough, Dear? Lyrics
We gave our lives to learn how to fly on our own.
Only to find out that the edge of all we know was just a painted sky:
A clever disguise to make the heavens refelect in our eyes...and all I see is all there is to be seen.
Only to find out that the edge of all we know was just a painted sky:
A clever disguise to make the heavens refelect in our eyes...and all I see is all there is to be seen.

This is one of my favorites off Daphne Loves Derby's new cd.
I'm not exactly sure what it means though. I think it has something to do with growing up & like going out into the world, & finding out it wasn't as great as you thought it would be?
I think it's about that too ^ like.. they made this huge sacrifice, and really, it was kind of for nothing, or for a disappointment? Like everything seemed better before they actually got to it. I don't know But it's a really good song, and I like how he repeats "we gave our lives to learn how to fly on our own" later in the CD.
I feel like it's about realizing that things aren't what they seem; Maybe what you think you want isn't really what you need.
I think the song is about sacrifice and deception. "we gave our lives, to learn how to fly on our own," I think is talking about how we try so hard to be individuals in this world, we try so hard to be unique. This line can be taken very seriously, like i think of Kurt Cobain, who "literally" gave his life to be his own person, someone that wasn't fake or copied. Or you could take it with a more passive meaning, such as that we try so hard to be a unique "individual" that we "give" or devote our lives to it. "only to find out that the edge of all we've known, it was just a painted sky," which is an awesome lyric btw, says that we make this sacrifice, we try so hard, only to find that all that we were working towards was just a painted sky, a picture, "a clever disguise to make the heavens reflect in our eyes," which i find to be a hauntingly beautiful lyric, because it says that we were deceived by the painted sky, that cleverly reflected the "heavens," in our eyes, that provided us inspiration. Beautiful song, short (and possibly for a reason), but awesome.
this reminds me of 'the truman show'. i know, i'm lame for not relating it to something mega deep. but "only to find out that the edge of all we know was just a painted sky" makes me think of the end, when truman realizes his entire life and everyone in it was staged, planned, and he was never really free. the more you think about it, the more depressing the thought is.
i agree with pajamaboy aha
it can apply to anything but i think its just all about deception
maybe they were thinkin about fame or the music industry when they wrote this i hear stuff like that all the time in songs
