I'm with the music industry explanation.

And I do wish people would stop commenting with "Love this song!". That is not the purpose of this website. You are meant to be debating the meaning, not how cool it is.

(Brest, I'm not referring to you. Or anyone on this particular thread, actually. Just wanted a side rant. Probably as irrelavant as the thing I'm decrying. Hah. Typical.)

Anyway, I'm also sure this is a direct reference to issues with the cheap taste of the record industry.

A six pack of Coke and a bottle of Jack is nothing compared to some classy wine. The industry is mostly for six packs of coke and bottles of jack, not wine.

I kept telling my boyfriend when I first heard this song, "This is her last tour or her last record with this label or something, she sounds like she is aggrivated. She wants to write abstract music they wont let her do"

Hence the line, "I'll do this last one, and I'll grow me some wine."

And boy has she made wine with Abnormally Attracted to Sin! That is the wine she's talking about.

I also like the line, "What you stole, I would given freely". Well, the opening of Abnormally Attracted is called Give.

Somebody tell me what this song means.. because it has taken the #1 spot as my favourite tori song.

I thought it was about relationships, how crappy people can be to eachother. In this case she is saying she has played all those games before and she is getting warning signs that it is a waste of her time. so now she will eventually settle ' grow some wine' not so sure about the stole line though and how it would fit the theory.

I think this is about her experiences in the music industry, particularly about the difficulties she had at Atlantic. A lot of these lyrics seem to refer to a headspace in which the artist is tempted to "do this last one and then I'll grow me some wine", i.e. to complete the required recordings for a contract and then retire to something personal and relaxing (a vineyard metaphor here - she did find her home in Cornwall and gardening there therapeutic and freeing).

There is a lot of imagery here about being used, things being "stolen" that she would have given freely - i.e. her talent, her art, etc. All the lyrics about cashing out, about knowing all the people and players in the game, about doing it long enough to know.

I can't decide... it could possibly be about relationships... but the concept about music industry makes sense too... hmm... I think whatever you want to relate to it's ok... that's what makes it brilliant...

The Deconstructionist in me wants to think that it's a bout both: a relationship (maybe with her husband?) and with the music industry (maybe Atlantic?).

Also I'll add that I've heard a theory that it's actually about her relationship with her fans, that she's tired of being everything for them.

this song is kind of dark and bitter... that, and the text as well make me believe that it is about being raped. "code red" reminds me of something about blood. "staring"- people are staring at her. i do not know if that makes sense.. but there are different meanings in very song and maybe that's at least one

Code Red is definitely my favourite from "American Doll Posse". The music is very foreboding, nearly sinister, and sets a very dark tone. As with most Tori songs, the lyrics could mean many things and are open to be interpreted individually by each listener. Tori puts her heart and soul into the music she makes and I can really feel it in this song. Although the mood of the song seems dark and foreboding, it leaves me feeling uplifted and satisfied. Great song!
