All Because of You (Alternate Version) Lyrics
Next to it
I was so close to it
I had the universe decoded
Then the atom split
I hear you say 'my oh my'
You know I got no tears to cry
And I got no love left in me now
Just salt in my eye
All because of you
All because of you
All because of you
I'm down, I'm down
Thunder's loud
But the sun is shining up above the cloud
It's not the noise, it's the deafening silence
Drowns God out
You say I should go for help
But I can't go, go to nobody else
You're like the river flowing underground
I can feel you when you're not around
All because of you
It's all because of you
All because of you
I'm down, we're down
You sadden me, tomorrow now
Slow your tinman heart, tomorrow now
Know, I know yeah
I'm, I'm alive
I'm alive, I'm being born
I just arrived, I'm at the door
Of the place I started out from
I want back inside
All because of you
All because of you
All because of you
I was so close to it
I had the universe decoded
Then the atom split
You know I got no tears to cry
And I got no love left in me now
Just salt in my eye
All because of you
All because of you
I'm down, I'm down
But the sun is shining up above the cloud
It's not the noise, it's the deafening silence
Drowns God out
But I can't go, go to nobody else
You're like the river flowing underground
I can feel you when you're not around
It's all because of you
All because of you
I'm down, we're down
Slow your tinman heart, tomorrow now
Know, I know yeah
I just arrived, I'm at the door
Of the place I started out from
I want back inside
All because of you
All because of you

i really want to hear this version sounds cool stupid complete u2 and itunes....
I love this version almost as much as the one that finally ended up on HTDAAB. Esp I like the verses. As for the meaning, I guess it's approximately the same as the one on the album.
I really like the song, except for the chorus... It's like the song is stuck or something. But I like th rest more than the original one.

I agree with Richard. Take the verses of this song and splice in the choruses of the final version, and it would be killer.
I do like how they decided to leave the last verse of this early version in the final version, though. It kicks it up a notch for the last part of the song.
I got the "U2 Rare and Unmastered" disc from U2.com and it found it's permanent home in my CD player in my car since I opened it. So many amazing songs on there, including this one. I love the lyrics so, so much and wish they'd just recycle them into another tune, so the masses could enjoy them too. I do, however, appreciate the opportunity to gain insight into their song making process, as you can see how the ideas from this version grew into the ideas of the released version on HTDAB. So, really I see why this was not recycled but released for us as a glimpse into how art takes on a life of its own and surpasses even its beautiful inception.
I love Bono's humility:
"Had the universe decoded/Then the atoms split"
The straight truth:
"It's not the noise/It's the deafening silence that drowns God out"
And of course the tune is soul-churning, just like the other one!
