Funeral Dress Lyrics

On a rack in a store for a discount price
But the color’s been changed to a black from white
Though the difference will prob’ly be lost on me
Anyways

And don’t worry if laughter is on your lips
Cause you wouldn’t be you if you changed for this
And I won’t measure love from the tears that drip
From your face

I can't wait for you
I can't wait for you

I suppose i should hope that it turns out fine
But I hope that some sadness does cross your mind
And you’ll look for me when you have crossed that line
Come one day

I can't wait for you
I can't wait for you
I can't wait for you

What a beautiful and strange song. From my perspective, the song is written from the point of view of a dead guy (gasp! :) )

"But the color’s been changed to a black from white Though the difference will prob’ly be lost on me"

Black is always symbolic of death and it's lost on him because he would be dead.

"And don’t worry if laughter is on your lips Cause you wouldn’t be you if you changed for this And I won’t measure love from the tears that drip From your face"

He's telling his girl friend to be happy and move on because he won't feel sad if she doesn't cry for him all the time.

"I suppose i should hope that it turns out fine But I hope that some sadness does cross your mind And you’ll look for me when you have crossed that line Come one day" That's pretty obvious if you go with my p.o.v. He hopes she is a little sad but they'll meet again when she dies "one day."

Beautiful song.

william is such a brilliant musician. i was hooked when i heard this song.

this song really could be about the death of a relationship or a person.

"don't worry if laughter is on your lips because you wouldn't be you if you changed for this and i won't measure love from the tears that drip on your face"

i think that's one of the most beautiful and unselfish things you could possibly say. i recently lost a friend to a freak car accident, and i imagine it's what she would say to me if she could. it's like, "you need to keep existing. don't worry if you're laughing. don't change because i'm gone. i know you still love me, even if the tears have stopped. it's okay."

it was certainly a confusing stir of emotions when i laughed for the first time after her death. i almost felt guilty.

at the same time, the third verse seems to speak from the perspective of a serious relationship that's ended: i should hope that it should turn out fine but i hope that some sadness does cross your mind and you'll look for me when you have crossed that line come one day

when a relationship has ended, you want to wish your lover well, while hoping they feel a mutual sadness every once and awhile because they've lost you. and, sometimes, you hope they'll think of you when they're finally ready to settle down/commit one day.

this song is so perfect.

My interpretation is quite different than you guys.

What I got out of it is a man and woman are best friends, and the man wants to be more than friends. The woman kind of does too, but has a boyfriend. The man waits and waits for them to break up, but decides it hurts too much investing time into something that isn't going to work at the time. So, he can't wait for her, as the song says.

I agree, and believe that it is sung from the perspective of a dead man, singing about his friend or lover after he dies. I love the line 'I can't wait for you'.

I think in a strange cynical way he's saying he can't wait for her to die because he wants to see her again.

Just a plainly amazing song.

I don't think this song i necessarily a euphemisms for "death".

On a rack in a store for a discount price But the color’s been changed to a black from white Though the difference will prob’ly be lost on me Anyways

Our relationship is worth what it used to be worth, the means of staying in this has been changed from pure to malicious reasoning, i'll be the one hurting you couldnt care less.

And don’t worry if laughter is on your lips Cause you wouldn’t be you if you changed for this And I won’t measure love from the tears that drip From your face

dont worry if you think this is funny because you didnt take it seriously anyways and if you changed all of the sudden it would make me regret that i'm leaving you, so don't pretend to be sad or that you have changed because it doesnt matter to me.

I suppose i should hope that it turns out fine But I hope that some sadness does cross your mind And you’ll look for me when you have crossed that line Come one day

i suppose one day, i'll be okay, i hope you eventually see it through my point of view and when you do you'll coem find me to make it better, i know you'll eventually see it.

The I can't wait for you, is saying I would love to see where this could go, but you're not putting in the same effort i am so i'm not going to waste my time with this anymore.

I'm sorry some spelling issues. I meant euphemism singular not plural. Our relationship isnt worth...

I think this song is obviously about death, but not from a dead man. Obviously, the song is called funeral DRESS. I imagine it being about a little girl. I suppose this is because every time i hear it, i think of my baby sister, who died recently at the age of five. Even at such a young age she was filled with love and life. She always was there to make people laugh and smile and i know she wouldnt want us to stop our lives because if what happened. and the thing about her is she never loved anyone any less despite their faults. her love was unconditional. and the line "i cant wait for you" is particularly important to me because her death was unexpected and none of us felt it was here time. but she had to go, she couldnt wait for us.
