Dreaming Out Loud Lyrics
[Verse 1]
Well hello sir, we live for Mondays,
Confident we'll get there someday,
Pushing all the papers to a wealthy man,
Might I say, a beautiful tie you wear,
And how do you find such lovely polka dots and stripes these days?
[Pre-Chorus]
Break, all my thoughts hit the floor,
Like I'm makin' the score,
I'm the king of the world,
I'm a popular man
Count by zero's to ten,
If you can't, well I can,
Don't let anyone wake me
[Chorus]
I'm dreamin' out loud,
Dreamin' out loud,
And all at once it's so familiar to see,
I'm dreamin' out loud,
Dreamin' out loud,
Can't find a puzzle to fit into piece of a part of me
[Verse 2]
Curtain calls a sanctuary,
Actors in the cloth, they freak me out,
Mockin' my purpose, in the magazines,
Famous how they make you feel grand,
They're always there to hold your hand,
In times of trouble, they're best of friends
[Pre-Chorus]
Break all my thoughts hit the floor,
Like I'm makin' the score,
I'm the king of the world,
I'm a popular man
Count by zero's to ten,
If you can't, well I can,
Don't let anyone wake me
[Chorus]
I'm dreamin' out loud,
Dreamin' out loud,
And all at once it's so familiar to see,
I'm dreamin' out loud,
Dreamin' out loud,
Can't find a puzzle to fit into piece of a part of me
[Bridge]
They don't care what you say
They don't care what you think
All they care, what you do,
As long as you're on beat,
Take a look at yourself
Storm tries to come and wreck my world,
No, I wont let it
Stumble to escape, through anchored drapes, made of bedding
[Chorus]
I'm dreamin' out loud,
Dreamin' out loud,
And all at once it's so familiar to see,
I'm dreamin' out loud,
Dreamin' out loud,
Can't find a puzzle to fit into piece of a part of me

Oh okay, thank you :)
I think this song could be talking about corporate buisnesses where they have to do everything a certain way, and when break comes they can have some freedom. Just i thought
exactly what I though when I read the lyrics. it sounds like he imagines himself with a more exciting life, but Monday comes again and it's back to the real world, back to his boring life.

Definitely one of my favorites of One Republic's. I love the metaphor: "stumble to escape, through anchored drapes made of bedding."
I really have no idea what this song means but I just wanted to say I love the simplicity of this song, and that this band are awesome and amazing and write really moving songs. I hope they get the recognition they deserve :)
what does that metaphor mean?
a metaphor is a comparision NOT using like or as... an example would be...like cindy ate all the pizza and her brother was like "cindy your a pig!" instead of saying "your like a pig"...do you know what i mean?! ahah just look it up :p Im really starting to get into one republic, thier actually prettty good :) this is definatly an awesomee tune!
i think ryan is speaking about how hollywood/the industry easily uses people, the conflict he feels b/t his true purpose as a human (if anyone's ever read "A Purpose-Driven Life") and being in the industry as an entertainer... particularly that line that goes: "Curtain calls a sanctuary, Actors in the cloth, they freak me out, Mockin' my purpose, in the magazines, Famous how they make you feel grand, They're always there to hold your hand, In times of trouble, they're best of friends" they're always there when you're on top, popular, and they want u to do whatever they say to make yourself popular. even though his dream has come true, it's at a price...
Is this song on their cd? or does it perhaps have a different name?
white_stone_3: the album has the same name as this song! It's number 13 according to iTunes
awesome album =]
oh sorry, Dreaming Out Loud -the song- is only available on the Australia version of the album [Dreaming Out Loud]
well, coming from the perspective of a songwriter, i can say this is definitely a well-written piece. It's full of insightful metaphors and moving allusions to the real world. in truth, most of the major lines are huge clues to what the song is about. -kudos to the one who said, "i think ryan is speaking about how hollywood/the industry easily uses people..." that's totally the idea. -as for the metaphor asked about earlier, ("stumble to escape, through anchored drapes made of bedding.") i believe it refers to the feeling of being locked into the industry and feeling like it's home at the same time. like being a prisoner in your own house. you belong there, but it also feels invaded and uncomfortable, and sometimes you want to step out, but you can't. it's your whole life.
