Hail and Farewell to Britain Lyrics

Once upon a slime I thought you royalty
I would never have questioned your loyalty
Don’t act so surprised I saw through your disguise
But with friends like you who needs enemies

Up until recently never had a clue
Either way, I must admit I pity you

I’m through with your kind cause you’ve wasted my time
Please do not release them Lord, knows what they do

I can’t believe how cruel life is
Emotional blackmail makes me sick, oh so sick

Who is to blame for constant shame on you
These words I use, please don’t confuse, with cool
This misfortune, not lost but won deserved
Choosing is hard careful which God you serve

Traitors many, surrounding me cowards
Conspiracy so clear to see flowers
We were brothers ‘til we discovered deceit
Tried with treason, that’s the reason you’re beat

I can’t believe how cruel life is
Emotional blackmail makes me sick, oh so sick

All hail and farewell to Britain
All hail and farewell to thee
All hail and farewell to England
All hail and farewell to me

This is quoted from an interview conducted on getmetal.com

What is the story behind the song “Hail and Farewell To Britain”?

Peter Steele: -It has nothing to do with England..It is a metaphor..What happened is, on most Type O albums we’ve had little soundscapes between songs and one of the sounds I had come up with was having British fighter pilots during World War I being shot down and going down together….and it kind of turned into a song! So as they are being shot down over Germany, they are saying Hail and Farewell to Britain.. I have nothing against England whatsoever or Germany or Poland or Iceland or fuckin Queens NY.. It also gives journalists another question to ask: what do you mean by that? And the answer is I don’t fuckin know…

I really want to know what inspired this track - it's clearly about a friendship that fell apart because of some perceived abuse of trust - but what more? Where any why does Britain come into it?

23 March 1775, Patrick Henry, American Revolution...

"Give me liberty or Give me death!"
