The Profit of Doom Lyrics

Goodbye cruel world

Of this shape a star of five
Also applies to the one with six sides
Against the sun and against the moon
I warn you that the two combined
Will bring man’s doom
Of ten horns and seven heads
Count your fingers and the continents
On your head or in your right hand
This new moral code that the media commands

Believe not in their clever words
Because faith inact(ed) are the loudest heard
All these things I say are true
Understood sadly by a chosen few, you

April 2029 the final time the end my friend is not near
The hour in fact is quite here when the moon becomes red
To guide the risen dead
This means God’s turned his back on you
It’s a Friday 13th of course you won’t live to see noon

I am a prophet of doom

So now the star has fallen washing away the seas
The seventh seal’s been opened it’s raining your fears
Are you paranoid the coming asteroid
Has got your name tattooed on it
This stone’s called Apophis

It brings apocalypse
I am a prophet of doom

Speak the name of he created thee all to be
Which should not be spoken no laws broken

Now life and love the stars above
Which fall upon the all that worship the beast
Influence ceased

My soul’s on fire

My faith is an ember burning forever
Working toward a greater reward serving my lured

Built his home upon the rock not of the flock
But coming as a shepherd guarding his heard

My soul’s on fire

Blastdude and MercifulSlaughter are both right, as the astroid mentioned is the 99942 Apophis, which like mentioned is said to hit earth on April 13th of 2029. Some people think this is the apocalypse written about in the Book of Revelations. With peter's new connection to Christianity, he probobly is thinking the same thing, or a connection is there.

He is asking himself (you, the listener): Why are you a prophet of Doom? I say it's programmed into us by way of TV, which has now become the advertisement 'respectable' people go to, for their feel-good fix. The empty feeling you get when you say something that yourself and the other guy knows is complete bullshit. But you were both taught: this is how respectable people act, just like neutered puppy-dogs. So then, if you come up with the answer to Why?, then you can address the problem: your 'natural' morals (the ones you learn from observing the people you grew up around, vs. the 'alien' culture destroyer, who's job it is to provide you with endless morality-eroding mind-torture devices. 'My soul is on fire' he keeps saying this, hoping you will accept his invitation, the ticket out. It just isn't what people are expecting.

This song reminds me of an old H.P. Lovecraft tale by the name of "the colour out of space"

but only in parts.

It's about the asteroid that will supposedly hit the earth in 2029, but the chances are low.

Apophis is set to cruise by here on Friday, April 13th, 2029, and cruise by very close. It will probably not hit then, but, 7 years later to the day, on Easter Sunday, April 13th, 2036, it has a roughly 1 in 45000 chance of making an impact.

does anyone know why the title is "Profit of Doom" and not "Prophet of Doom"? is there any meaning behind that or is it just a grammatical mistake?

It's a play on words reflecting the message of the song. This song is a tongue-in-cheek commentary that is ridiculing men and women who PROFIT off of warning us that the end is near, so since the end is near we should buy their books and other products that show us how to/help us repent repent repent.

When listening to Type-O-Neg you have to learn to decipher what they're REALLY saying and realize that they've always been very sarcastic and tongue-in-cheek. They very rarely flat out say what they're actually trying to say, they do everything in a round...

ahh, I get it. thank you! :) I'm not good at interpreting songs to begin with, but like you said Type O has their own peculiar way of getting their messages across with sarcasm, self-deprecating humor, etc., which makes it a little more difficult. but that's also one of the reasons why this band is so intriguing.
