Kickin' Back On The Surface Of Your Cheek Lyrics
Deck chairs out lads, here's the spot
A spanking panoramic view
The soil here is silk
The air is selective:
"Whose lungs shall I fill with my glorious vapours?
Whose lungs shall I fill with my glory?"
Breathe in, breathe out
Stand tall, stand proud
Taking in all you see
You begin to register cliffs as teeth
Taking in all you see
The fucking penny drops
I've been kicking back on the surface of your cheek, all along
I'm gonna dive right in your mouth
And cut off your tongue
And hide there forever
Breathe in, breathe out
Stand tall, stand proud
Take to the skies, it's time to live
Take to the skies, it's time to live
Take to the skies, it's time to live
Take to the skies, it's time to live
Take to the skies, it's time to live
Take to the skies, it's time to live
A spanking panoramic view
The soil here is silk
The air is selective:
Whose lungs shall I fill with my glory?"
Stand tall, stand proud
You begin to register cliffs as teeth
Taking in all you see
I've been kicking back on the surface of your cheek, all along
And cut off your tongue
And hide there forever
Stand tall, stand proud
Take to the skies, it's time to live
Take to the skies, it's time to live
Take to the skies, it's time to live
Take to the skies, it's time to live
Take to the skies, it's time to live

could it be a philosophical reference? meaning a person is in a seemingly perfect world and he thinks he's free only to find out that he's been in someone's mouth all along and his freedom was just an illusion within a confined space. same as we think we're free but in fact we only do everything that is expected of us within the confinement of social norms etc. the "take to the skies" at the end would fit in then too. kind of similar to "we can breathe in space" and "the feast" if you look closely. maybe i took it too far but somehow most of their songs seem to be extremely closely related to philosophical theories. maybe its just a coincidence though
Amazing song. even better live (y)
proper lyrics (i'm not able to edit my first edit) - this one is from rou in person:
Deck chairs out lads, heres the spot, a spanking panoramic view. The soil here is silk, the air is SELECTIVE!
"Whose lungs shall I fill with my glorious vapours? Whose lungs shall I fill with my glory?"
BREATH IN , BREATH OUT STAND TALL, STAND PROUD
Taking in all u see You begin to register cliffs as teeth Taking in all you see
The fucking penny drops I’ve been kicking back on the surface of your cheek, all along... I’m gonna dive right in your mouth and cut off your tongue and hide there FOREVER.
BREATH IN, BREATH OUT STAND TALL, STAND PROUD
TAKE TO THE SKIES IT'S TIME TO LIVE
I'm appauling at song analysis and usually avoid it, but heres my take on this song:
"Taking in all you see You begin to register cliffs as teeth Taking in all you see" I'm thinking this is about tripping out, and the first verse ("Deck chairs out lads...") is about finding a nice place to get high!
and "The fucking penny drops..." bit could be about realising that a girl is leading you on / telling lies, especially when it talks about cutting off your toungue. In contrast with the previous bit, (being much angrier) shows how deep thought and realising something important totally ruins your mood when you're high/tripping.
this & no sssweat, are fucking incredible. definately epic. i won't even try to decode whatever this song means. lol.
Its about there time in Newquay. And theres always friction between st. albans and bristol... and they used there tongue (slang) to infiltrate them and do them over.
The fucking penny drops is when the fighting starts.
In my opinion, this song is simply about finding out you're in a persons mouth xD "Taking in all u see You begin to register cliffs as teeth" for example. It's like "Hang on, they're not cliffs, are they? Oh shit. They're teeth. o.o"
"The fucking penny drops I've been kicking back on the surface of your cheek, all along..." just means he's finally realised where he is. And I know this is going backwards and forwards but that's how I roll.
The whole first verse is like "Ooo, look! I found a perfect spot to us to lie back and do nothing, just kick back."
"Deck chairs out lads, heres the spot, a spanking panoramic view. The soil here is silk, the air is SELECTIVE!" He says the soild is silk because if you've ever felt your toung it feels really soft, almost like silk. He also says "The air is selective" Because the person who's mouth they are in is breathing. Hence the "Breath in! Breath out!" lines.
Anyway, I've said what I think now I'll let you get one with listening to this tune and a half ;D
i actually think your right it makes sense, and who knows maybe they were on some shrooms or salvia when they wrote this song.

This is about germs, guys. It's quite obvious really. ;)
Read the PROPER lyrics as if they're from the perspective of a bunch of germs, now you understand Kickin' Back On The Surface Of Your Cheek.
This isn't too 'out there', considering Take To The Skies is about an alien invasion.
why would germs aspire to escape from their natural habitat? that doesnt make sense. anyway it doesnt matter who the creature is, the point is, he's trapped in someones mouth and he's only just realised that everything he's been doing, however awesome it may have been, has been done inside a mouth and he's just found out theres a whole new, bigger world outside. looking at their other songs, it probably means he's been trapped by society and he's just realised that theres more to the universe that what society can offer.
the whole alien invasion thing is a metaphor anyway, most of their songs say more or less the same but with different metaphors
