Goodbye Lyrics

I'm better off just pretending
Like I never really knew you
I gotta stop
Holding hands with the memory I'm feeling
I gotta say
Something's different bout the way I see you lately
You feel the same
I can see it in your eyes I think it's changing

The blame wont fall
On either side

Can you feel it breaking
Into pieces underneath
Someone's gotta say it
It might as well be me
Goodbye
It wasn't right this time
Goodbye

We should've known
There was always something that we were missing
Letting go to this
Even though it's hard I know it's the best thing

Good intentions fall
There's no where to hide

Can you feel it breaking
Into pieces underneath
Someone's gotta say it
it might as well be me
Goodbye
It wasn't right this time
Goodbye

I don't want to tell you
What I have to say
We don't have to be sorry
It just worked out this way

I don't want to but I have to
I don't want to
I don't want to but I have to
I don't want to
I don't want to but I have to
I don't want to

Can you feel it breaking
Into pieces underneath
Someone's gotta say it
It might as well be me
Goodbye
It wasn't right this time
Goodbye

It wasn't right
Goodbye

its pretty obvious that this girl was in a realationship with a guy she was really into and he all of a sudden just started changing for the worst and no matter how much she still cares for him she knows that the changes that have been going through them has cause the realationship to end

I think that he wasn't the only one to change. They were both probably going to through some things that changed how they were. You can't put the blame on just him. This decision is made by two people, and she does say "You feel the same" which shows that he also thinks she's changed. This song is a better way of breaking up, since neither one of them gets blamed.

I agree wtih bumbubble10, it's about a couple where the girl thinks the guy has changed, and there really isn't a relationship anymore. But she keeps holding onto the memory hoping that it's worth something, and they both know that memories are all that's left. And she says that someone has to end it and it's going to be her.

this song means so much. it connects with me, and i'm sure a bajillion other people who've been in the situation. the situation where you love someone, but that it can't work, and you can't force it to work. and maybe it's even gotten tot he point where it's bad for you, and you know you have to get out of it. it's so hard, but you know it's right. you don't want to have to admit it and leave, but you have to. and sometimes the best thing is "pretending like i never really knew you," because then you block out the feelings and the memories. it's one of the most painful realizations, but it happens.

i love this song and hate it so much. every time i listen to it, i feel like dying. when you're in a situation like this, you can feel it so much more. i love this boy so much, and we've been running in circles for a long time, and i know that it will NEVER work no matter how much i force it to, he's let go and changed but i haven't and i've got to stop this but i can't find an exit.

I agree with theusedfan85, ive been goin throu it for like a year, this explains it all and you wanna say goodbye but it hurts and sometimes you want to but the word wont come out, i love this song, and i think its either relationship, where he changed, or where she liked him and he liked her but everytime they tried it would never work and shes gettin tired of it, and just thinks its best to say goodbye to him.

My Opinion

"I don't want to but I have to". Here is where you get to see the regret that she has.She doesn't want to hurt him in anyway, but with breaking up it's impossible not to. Although she knows both of them will be hurt by this, she states "We don't have to be sorry, it just worked out this way". This means that it's neither of their faults and there shouldn't be any regrets at all. They didn't cause the break-up it just happened on its own and everything happens for a reason. The repeating of, "I don't want to but I have to," shows that this isn't something she likes or is fond of. By repeating it, she makes it clear that the last thing she wants is to hurt his feelings.
