Please Be Patient With Me Lyrics

I should warn you when I'm not well
I can tell
oh, there's nothing I can do
to make this easier for you
you're gonna need to be patient with me

I'm this apple, this happening stone
when I'm alone
oh, but my blessings get so blurred
at the sound of your words
I'm gonna need you to be patient with me

how can I warn you when my tongue turns to dust like we've discussed
it doesn't mean that I don't care
it means I'm partially there
you're gonna need to be patient with me

haha, this is my best guy friend's song. he so nonchalant about everything and acts like nothing mattered much. he knows i hate it. but i guess he actually listens. that whole story can pretty much be summarized in these two lines:

"it doesn't mean that I don't care it means I'm partially there"

odd, when you think about it.

This is one of the best songs by Wilco!! I think its about Jeff Tweedy's addiction to drugs. He can't quit that easily so he's telling everyone to be Patient with him. until he can get better

I.. absolutely love this song. It has to be my favorite by Wilco.

This song perfectly matched up with a fight that I had with my best friend. They had claimed that they had nothing else to say to me for a while, seeing as how they aren't used to having friends in the first place--they are basically a loner. So they told me, "be patient with me," and upon finding this song while we weren't talking, well, I cried. My friend, instead of "warning me when [they're] not well," simply cut me off. But the part that hits me the hardest is the last verse, "How can I warn you when my tongue turns to dust like we've discussed? It doesn't mean that I don't care, it means I'm partially there. You're gonna need to be patient with me." That one verse summarized my friend's entire side of the fight--where I had thought they didn't want anything to do with me, they really were always there, trying to figure out how to tell me what was wrong with them.

..And the fact that song has the word "apple" in it, is so weird, seeing as how my friend's favorite food is apples.

I can see this song being about drug abuse but I've recently sort of came around to it being about mental illness. He's apologizing to his S.O. about his dark tendencies, stuff that he knows is there but can't control.

Without knowing much about Tweedy, I took this song and a couple of others on the album to be written post-breakup [Either Way, Please Be Patient With Me, Hate It Here]. I know that to be incorrect now in that he was married to his wife long before and long after this album came out.
