Sweet Dreams Sweet Cheeks Lyrics
When the smaller picture is the same as the bigger picture
You know that you're fucked
When you're trading paper cuts for splinters
You're out of luck
Like sharks don't sleep
And I don't take my eyes off you
The architecture's shit
And my cheeks are all ruddy and bruised
And it hits as hard as a blow to the head
Or a smash to the skull or a knee to your chest
(Trading paper cuts for splinters)
And sweet dreams sweet cheeks
Oh tomorrow oh tomorrow oh tomorrow
All these mercy killings have got my conscience spinning over
(We've paid off the judges and we're taking advantage)
And the building's ornate but it's lacking in soul and character
(Pleading our defense in binary and smiley apology montage)
We're burning five story buildings laying man traps at the fire exits
(Like dignity is equal to desperation and self-effacement)
Playing feedback over tan oi systems you look desperate, you look pathetic
(We're holding on to our own grandeur with careful compliment placement)
And it hits as hard as a blow to the head
Or a smash to the skull or a knee to your chest
(Trading paper cuts for splinters)
It hits as hard as a blow to the head
or a smash to the skull or a knee to your chest
(Sweet dreams sweet cheeks oh tomorrow oh tomorrow)
It hits as hard as a blow to the head

it's "it HITS" and not "it hurts as hard..."
wonderful song, can't get enough of it
i'm thinking "my cheeks are all ready and bruised" might be "ruddy and bruised". makes a bit more sense, no?
The booklet for HONY says, without new paragraphs or anything, but I'll take my liberties:
"When the smaller picture's the same as the bigger picture you know that you're fucked. When you're trading paper cuts for splinters you're out of luck, like sharks don't sleep and I don't take my eyes off you. The architecture's shit and my cheeks are all ruddy and bruised.
***And it hits as hard as a blow to the head or a smash to the skull or a knee to your chest. Sweet dreams; sweet cheeks, oh tomorrow, oh tomorrow, oh tomorrow.
All these mercy killings have got my conscience spilling over and the buildings ornate but its lacking in soul and character. We're burning five story buildings laying man traps at the fire exits, playing feedback over tannoy systems. You look desperate, you look pathetic. / We've paid off the judges and we're taking advantage, pleading our defence in binary and smiley apology montage. Like dignity is equal to desperation and self-effacement. We're holding on to our own grandeur with careful compliment placement.
One blink for yes. Two blinks for no. Sweet dreams, sweet cheeks, we leave alone."
When I listen to this song honestly the first thing that comes to mind is sympathy for a person on life support, and the debate whether or not to keep that person alive past a certain point. I doubt that's it, just some of the lyrics make me think of that.
@robbyisstupid Now that you said it, I think you're right. The most part of the lyrics can be read picturing a person being paralized (maybe for clinical reasons). Maybe the cheeks are bruised because the speaker can't move them the way they want and the dreams are all they have besides laying in the bed. Things around annoy them that much because they can't do anything to change it since they're "trapped" and it hurts emotionally (and maybe physically).

haha I dont know why, but that first stanza always gets a chuckle out of me.
"When the smaller picture is the same as the bigger picture you know that you're fucked"
How true is that? I love the beat and energy to this song. And to think when I first went to listen to them, I was under the impression that they were spanish..haha.
I love this song!
lol i think i thought they were mexican cuz of the band name too :P
It doesn't really make sense with the rest of the song…but the line "One blink for 'yes', two blinks for 'no'" from the last stanza reminds me of the novel/film The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, in which the paralyzed protagonist uses this blinking system to communicate.
my version doesnt have this "We've paid off the judges and we're taking advantage, pleading our defence in binary and smiley apology montage. Like dignity is equal to desperation and self-effacement. We're holding on to our own grandeur with careful compliment placement."
but having read that, i completely agree with 'robbyisstupid'
"Like dignity is equal to desperation and self-effacement." dignity is referring to killing them, when people are in comas or whatnot, people argue that they should be allowed to die in dignity (euthanasia)
The, "We've paid off the judges and we're taking advantage, pleading our defence in binary and smiley apology montage. Like dignity is equal to desperation and self-effacement. We're holding on to our own grandeur with careful compliment placement" part, I think is in the background and it is the girl singing it. You kind of have to listen closely as the only word I can really make out is "montage."
