Leave Me (Like You Found Me) Lyrics
That's when I knew you
You might be lonely too
That's what I wish for
Somebody just like you
To tell me what to do
Honestly
And leave me like you found me
Can you believe it?
I'm somebody just like you
Content with being blue
Honestly
And leave me like you found me
I sit on the couch alone
Where you sit when I'm not home
And I feel so close
To you
And down the city streets
People are climbing the trees
They're finally up off their knees
Honestly
You leave me like you found me
Can you leave me like you found me?
You might be lonely too
That's what I wish for
Somebody just like you
To tell me what to do
Honestly
And leave me like you found me
I'm somebody just like you
Content with being blue
Honestly
And leave me like you found me
Where you sit when I'm not home
And I feel so close
To you
People are climbing the trees
They're finally up off their knees
Honestly
You leave me like you found me
Can you leave me like you found me?

"That's when I knew you."
What a heartbreaking way to start a song; a simple line and then a brief/beautiful instrumental. Beautiful song...
I think everyone one of us that have been in this situation will understand what the song means right away...
It's amazing how much I like Wilco with every passing minute...
I think the new album is a bit disappointing, but this song is amazing and my favorite on the album.
I agree, the first line is amazing, sets up the song perfectly, so relatable. pefect melody to go along with it
I think its one of their best. Way better than A Ghost Is Born. It's really depressing though.
that guitar solo just sounds too much like the jeopardy tune. it drives me mad. leave me like you found me is the best song on the cd. i think that shows best how disappointed i am...
Amazing song and I agree with mumbles. I think this album grows on you slowly; I like it more with each listen. As for this song I love the last line:
"Can you leave me like you found me?"
It just speaks to where I've been at the end of a relationship.
I personaly think that its about someone know its going to end and to end it now rather than knowing it's going to happen but not knowing when. I also get the impression that its about getting tired of being left and hurt to the point where you figure that its better to not love so you can't be hurt anymore.
i'm not sure what this says about me, or my capacity for relationships :) ...but i never really thought of this song as being about a break up, or a relationship ending. if anything, it's suggestive of a beginning or a settling in more than an ending, like the way he says, "can you believe it..." also, the part that begins, "i sit on the couch alone..." i always took to just be sort of literal, like that's how he actually feels. either way, i never saw the status of the relationship as being the focal point. this song did stick out to me more than the rest on BSB, though, because i think i found the character/the situation to be most personally relateable.
I agree with TheWrongGirl about this song being about more of a beginning than an ending. It seems almost like he's trying to convince the person he likes or is interested in that they are good for each other, but at the same time is uncertain about if the relationship will work out, and if it doesn't work out, he'd like (her) to "leave me you found me."
