She's A Butterfly Lyrics
She remembers when
She first got her wings
And how she opened up
The day she learned to sing
Then the colors came
Erased the black and white
And her whole world changed
When she realized...
She's a butterfly
Pretty as a crimson sky
Nothing's ever gonna being her down
And everywhere she goes
Everybody knows
She's so glad to be alive
She's a butterfly
Like the purest light
In a darked world
So much hope inside
Such a lovely girl
You should see her fly
It's almost magical
It makes you wanna cry
She's so beautiful
She's a butterfly
Pretty as a crimson sky
Nothing's ever gonna being her down
And everywhere she goes
Everybody knows
She's so glad to be alive
She's a butterfly
God bless the butterfly
Giver her the strength to fly
Never let her wings touch the ground
(God bless the butterfly)
God bless the butterfly
Giver her the strength to fly
Never let her wings touch the ground
Ohh, she's a butterfly
Pretty as a crimson sky
Nothing's ever gonna being her down
And everywhere she goes
Everybody knows
She's so glad to be alive
She's a butterfly
She's a butterfly
She's a butterfly
God bless the butterfly
Giver her the strength to fly
Never let her wings touch the ground
(God bless the butterfly)

This song was written about a teenage girl named Katie Darnell who died of cancer. She was also the inspiration for Big & Rich's "This Life".
I discovered this song after my wife died.As I sat outside our house waiting for the sherrif complete the investagtion, there were many black and yellow butterflies. As they removed my wife a solid yellow butterfly flew in the direction she was being carried. She loved butterflies in fact my only video and recording I have of her is her playing a butterfly. I think of that day as the day she got her wings.

My best friend was diagnosed w/stage 4 esophagus cancer in feb. of this year. When first diagnosed she weighed about 150 lbs, 5'7". And as of today she is 83 lbs soaking wet! She is currently in the hospital; had a feeding tube inserted two days ago. I know our time is limited...so I have been in much need for any sort of inspiration and/or music. I looked up this song because she and I once listened to this Martina McBride CD; while she was going thru dialysis (3 years) and a kidney transplant. Yes,she is a fighter! Anyway, I looked up the lyrics of this song, have not heard it for years...and then saw the meaning of it. Certainly fits my situation, however my friend is 48, wife of 25 years, 2 sons, first grandchild due in March of 2012, she is not a teenager, but too young for all this. I dedicate this song to her.
