When You're Gone

The music video is nothing to do with Avril. it's about three different age groups missing someone that they truly love and is very close to them.

first, there is the pregnant woman, who's husband goes to war. every time she sees the bombs happening where her husband's at on TV, she cries, wanting her husband to come home and hoping he would survive. she's missing him.

then there is the teenager. she loves her boyfriend very much but her mother does not want her to spend time with him. her mother sends her teenage daughter home, telling her that she is to never see him again. the teen misses him.

last, there is the older man. his wife recently died. his wife's clothes, photos and the empty spot on the bed reminds him of her. he misses her.

At the end of the music video, it shows that the older man is trying to be happy and go to his wife's funeral. the teenager finds the old spot where she and her boyfriend used to hang out and remembers all those happy times together. the pregnant woman receives a text message from her husband saying that he's okay and he will come home soon.

I guess it's about missing someone when you're separated from them for one reason or another, I heard this was dedicated to her husband derrick so yeah. :P

I like the tune of the song but I'm not fond of this nasally voice she's using to sing with now.. she should stay within her range.

I think the video is clear enough. I really love the part she says "When you walk away, I count the steps that you take..." It's about someone who is so close and dear to you, and suddenly she/he is leaving or going somewhere, and you don't know when will you ever see them again. This song is so touching for me. :)

i love this song! i've always loved avril, until i heard girllfiend, but when i heard this song, i was like "thank god"

i think anyone who's every lost someone or has been lonely can relate to this song

most love songs are so typical u recognise the meaning instantly and it ends up being the same as the other, but for some reason this song is so powerful and moving. everything about it is so true about love and missing someone so much that you reveal your inner feelings, its written perfectly

this is a really good song. this video fits the mood of the song entirely, as well as the piano. it makes me want to cry. i just thought, in general, it wasn't a personal song for avril. it was just when people have to leave their loved ones and it's explaining how much the other misses them and loves them.

I am a soon to be fiance of an A1C (united states air force) airman. Before I even watched the video to this song online, I would replay this song on the cd over and over. After watching the video, I can completely relate to that part of this video. It is so much harder than it looks to tell him it's going to be alright and act like everything is fine when he leaves. Because they have so much to worry about, then need to know we are behind them. When friends say "I would never date a military man" I just shake my head. It takes so much but when they get off that bus or plane and run into our arms, it's so worthwhile knowing that he is not just any hero, he is my hero. I love you Pete.

I love this song. I can really connect with it, and yeah.. It describes exactly how you feel when someone you love has left you. Avril has a fantastic ability of being able to express herself in any aspect. This song is one of my favourites on her album because, like many of you, I can really relate to the lyrics & I think that the emotional level she has the ability to create is astounding. When I heard "Girlfriend" I thought she had decided to totally change her image, but hearing this song sort of brings relief to my ears to know she's still got her talent, lol. Love it!

i like almost all of avril's stuff. but anyways if you watch the video its abou someone whos not there anymore. they could have gonw overseas, your parents wont let yall be together, or someone couldve died. its just about missing that certain someone in your life.
