Well Enough Alone Lyrics

Walk down the realm
Hint to no one that this
Generic bond exists
Evil shows another side

And like before, makes no sense
Never coming, always leaving
Right before
Hooked on substance,
Digging deeper
Can't reveal

Why we leave
Well enough alone
Never thought about the shame

So fed up,
What's with the scenes?
Observe and leave instead
This pity wagon
Penetrates my skin
So sensitive, it makes me sick

And like before, makes no sense
Never coming, always leaving
Right before
Hooked on substance,
Digging deeper
Can't reveal

Why we leave
Well enough alone
Never thought about the shame

The old and the aged
Pulled and never knew what hit
The old and the aged
Pulled and never knew

And like before, makes no sense
Never coming, always leaving
Right before
Hooked on substance,
Digging deeper
Can't reveal

Why we leave
Well enough alone
Never thought about the shame

Why we leave
Well enough alone
Never thought about the shame

When you leave
When you leave

This song is about (Like everyone says, just clarifying) an alcohol addiction, not drugs. He is talking about a friend he lost to alcohol in the late 90's.

"Hooked on Substance, Digging Deeper, Can't Reveal" speaks about (of course) the addict being drawn in by alcohol, and unable to see the disaster behind it.

"So fed up, What's with the scenes?" Talks about his mind frame and his denial. His refusal to react when something bad happens.

"Penetrates my skin, so sensitive, makes me sick" speaks about when he finally realizes what is happening to his friend.

"The old and the aged, pulled and never knew what hit" speaks about those who have already had their share of alcohol and disasters.

My favorite part, and I'm sure yours too. The echoing voices sequence is representing the final disaster striking, going crazy, beating your friends or family or even killing them, becoming angry, finally losing it, or even death.

Clear as day. Best song by Chevelle.

One of a number of great songs referencing Joe leaving the band.

Song Meaning
Cover art for Well Enough Alone lyrics by Chevelle

This song is about when Joe Loeffler (bassist) left the band, and since the trio were brothers, they were not only singing about a band member, they were talking about their brother. Although he decided to quit, they are not mad, but this is more of a warning for Joe's saftey.

Where's the proof that it was written 5 years ago?

Ok people are saying this song is about alcohol abuse. When I heard it I interpreted it in a very straight forward way

My Interpretation

Wouldn't it be great if I could interpret the song in the first comment?! Well I can't see anything obvious standing out at the minute, apart from the fact that it ROCKS! It's definately quite a dark song, reminds me of feeling alone at night, nightmares and such... Someone help!

This song is Great, cant wait for the cd. I'm not really sure what it means. This song is 5 years old though, so it might be the feeling of loneness after something special or a one night type of thing between lovers..

I don't think the song is about Joe Loeffler, as the song was actually written about five years ago, as someone else mentioned.
