I agree with Alphaelement interpretation, but I would add that this could refer to some wider subjects, not only to staying up late.
agreed, this is so melodic and i love how she used french.
I was born at 5:55 and this song enchants me because of that. By the way it was written with the duo Air and Jarvis Cocker, Pulp's frontman.
Its about staying up late (based on the video, staying up late with a lover), and then just passing time drifting and thinking at 5:55, when its to late to go to bed (and end what happened last night) but to early to start a new day.
