Are such beautiful lines. To me, it's symbolic of the maturing of his faith. He's realized that there is more to God than the good feelings that came when he was first a Christian. Faith is a very difficult thing, but it's only through difficulties that it can become stronger. It also brings to mind the part of Revelation were John writes about eating a scroll that God had given him, and how it was "in [his] belly bitter, but in [his] mouth it was sweet".
Overall, I guess the song is about growing up, both in age and in faith, how he knows he's messed up and strayed, but that has given him a better view of what it really means to follow God. He's asking God to take him back again, and he desires to grow further still.

just saw these guys with brand new.... they were amazingly sick. their show is definately one i will be attending again, headlining or not.
Hm. From a very literal sense, it seems like maybe he thought christianity was foolish when he was younger, but now that he's grown, he believes. It's kind of like a born again christian thing - he's been trying to be good and is wondering, now that god is "home," or in his heart, where he belongs, if he'll save him.
That being said, for me, he seems to have a very sarcastic tone throughout the song, like maybe he doesn't really believe in any of this? But maybe that's just his voice and maybe my own beliefs are coming into play and clouding my judgment.
I've seen these guys 3 times already and I'm going to see them again in Austin... I love this band... but anywayz... I love the line... "From mirrors you looked like a fool" I think he just means himself... since God is in every person... he's noticed how he has made a fool of himself and of God by maybe losing his faith

it's about his friend, an ex-member of the band "The Chariot" who came to him. Andy said it's not a knock on the band at all, it's just how he handled comforting his friend who came to him after leaving the band.

The aforementioned "Chariot" is a band Andy Hull was associated with before. I presume that because of the religious tones in these lyrics, he's saying that no matter what some people think, he really does devoutly believe in God. Nothing people say can make him not believe in God.

i thought he was referring to Elijah from the bible since he gets taken by the chariot to heaven. And many people didn't believe it actually happened so they looked all over for Elijah's body. So kind of like he believes in god no matter what people say. but then when he says "We're gonna see if this bad boy can fly" he is again referring to the chariot flying away with Elijah.
This is what Andy said in an interview regarding "the Chariot" line. He's essentially talking about the GA grindcore band, The Chariot:
"I am very good friends with the former guitar player for [the Chariot], who had been in the band since it formed. We played in Atlanta on June 3, and before the show my friend came to the show, and he had just left the band [The Chariot]. He came and he was just broken, angry and very upset. He didn't really understand what was happening. The song really has nothing to do with the band in any sense. It has to do with me looking at a friend who has no idea what to do or what he's trying to do, and he's saying "Sweet Jesus I love you no matter what the Chariot says". Its a place where I've been so many times in my life. The truth is, saying I don't care what everyone else thinks, I love you and I swear that I love you. Sometimes you're telling the truth, and sometimes you're not. The song is more of an observation of my friend during this time of uncertainty. It's more of an example of sorts than any disrespect to the band."
