Riptide Lyrics

i need a new song, shift it all around, like the ocean
when the riptide gets you down
take some, from the ones you love, in the old town
when the riptide gets you down
sing i can still breathe i can still walk
i can still see neilgen walking up the dock
i remember when i carved my name into this cedar tree
sing while i'm walking sabbys on the rocks
with a new reel flashing casting as he talks
he came home from the city
when they choked out all of his dreams
and i guess you could say that this is me
and i guess that these folks are the only ones i believe
everywhere i go i'm going to the ocean
every river flows into the ocean
the water in my soul is going to the ocean
i sing the great unknown i'm singing to the ocean
sing i can still breathe i can still walk
i can still see neilgen walking up the dock
i remember when i carved my name into this cedar tree
sing while i'm walking sabbys on the rocks
with a new reel flashing casting as he talks
he came home from the city
when they choked out all of his dreams
i need a new song, shift it all around, like the ocean
when the riptide gets you down
take some, from the ones you love, in the old town
when the riptide gets you down

Cover art for Riptide lyrics by Willy Mason

such a beautiful song. willy's just talking about his hometown. he's remembering all the things he's done: "i remember when i carved my name into this cedar tree". and he went to the city and it just wasn't what he thought it would be, and he missed where he lived. so he went back, and he's talking to "sabby", who had a similar thing happen to him, so he just went back too. he missed the ocean, especially. this song reads my mind, it makes me never want the leave the island.
