Cecilia Lyrics
cecilia,
you didn`t wanna give your heart away
you tear apart with angel eyes like bluebells
with trembling hearts, you leave your empty shells
cecilia,
you didn`t wanna leave it all behind
here I am
flesh and bones
here I am
flesh and bones
did he touch you?
shameful and disgraced?
did he rob your joy of the embrace?
cecilia,
you didn`t wanna give your heart away
cecilia,
you didn`t wanna leave it all behind
here I am
flesh and bones
here I am
flesh and bones
here I am
flesh and bones
you didn`t wanna give your heart away
with trembling hearts, you leave your empty shells
you didn`t wanna leave it all behind
flesh and bones
here I am
flesh and bones
shameful and disgraced?
did he rob your joy of the embrace?
you didn`t wanna give your heart away
you didn`t wanna leave it all behind
flesh and bones
here I am
flesh and bones
here I am
flesh and bones

I will always love this because this was the song that introduced me to Thomas Dybdahl (whose music I've loved ever since).
To me it seems that Cecilia was perhaps in an abusive relationship of some sort ("Did he rob your joy of the embrace?") and the "here I am" -part is about the singer reminding her that he's really there for her, like a shoulder to cry on.
It seems Celia has been damaged in the past, and the damage is still with her and affecting her current relationship and being. She was damaged deep, in her flesh and bones and she is telling her new partner that here she is now, in flesh and bones, and that she is fragile. The lyrics ‘did he touch you?/Shameful and disgraced?/Did he rob your joy of the embrace?’, seems to be her lover or the artist asking her what happened to you in the past that would cause you to ‘tear apart’ like this. ‘He’ could be a past lover however these lyrics seem to be implying maybe something more sinister. In the music video her older self throws away a necklace that she was given when she was a child, linking her childhood with her current hurt. There is also an ambiguous section in the video in which a man’s hand pulls back a curtain to reveal either her as a little girl or her older self. But whatever the damage was or by who, it has ‘robbed her joy of the embrace’ and is stopping her giving her heart to the person she loves.
