Indictment Lyrics

Eyes fill with hatred
When they fall upon me
You worship gods of violence and bigotry
Forgetting lessons learned
That prove these
The wrong ideals

Don't let me follow in the footsteps
I won't embrace these wrong ideals
This thirst for violence,
domination
it only serves your wrong beliefs

This is my indictment of your beliefs
This is m indictment of what you hold dear

Your evil consumes you
A jealous few incite ignorant followers
Invoke the name and watch the masses turn on us
For fear that I embody what you fear

This is my indictment of your beliefs
This is m indictment of what you hold dear

My eyes have seen the horrors that you
Commit in the name of your god
Your god is violence
Your god is unholy
Your god is violence
Your god is unholy

Eyes fill with hatred,
when they fall upon you

Invoke the name and watch the masses turn on us
For fear that I embody what you fear

Your god is violence
Your god is unholy
Your god is violence
Your god is unholy

i think the song is referring to the small number of Muslims who kill in the name of Allah. after all, "Allah" means "God" in Arabic. it could apply to certain Christians too, but it seems to me that today the most killing done in the name of "God" comes from the middle east. i'm not saying Muslims in general are killers or anything like that but there are a small number that do and they get plenty of news coverage these days

I find the previous comment wrong.

I think its more of a feel that there are ppl who believe in the wrong things being right like the violent , hatred , and such....they are unholy according to phil.

the meaning of this song is pretty clear to me, i think hes opposing other religions that encourage violance and hatred to others, phil is singing from the point of view of a christian (which he is) telling them that they are wrong and "unholy" there is a great difference between unholy and not holy. not holy would be more from the point of view of an athiast you doesnt believe in holiness. unholyness is more like the point of view of a christian saying it is against the bible and the lord. as far as the quote

"there is a great difference between unholy and not holy. not holy would be more from the point of view of an athiast you doesnt believe in holiness. unholyness is more like the point of view of a christian saying it is against the bible and the lord."

In your own mind, perhaps. In reality, the actual definition of 'unholy' makes no such distinction. The same word carries both meanings that you described.

It's too bad this song's lyrics are so ambiguous. It's hard to tell if the writer is referring to the Abrahamic God at all, or perhaps some conceptions of him. It does refer to 'gods of violence and bigotry', which indicates a plurality, but if it refers to the conceptions of the abrahamic God {Christian, Muslim, Jewish, etc.}, then it could be meant to refer to encompass the Abrahamic God in all faiths and worldviews. However, most people know that the devoutly religious do not, as a general rule, practice violence or hate. In fact, all religions of any worth aim for the opposite. I originally thought this song refered to those who live life as though Violence and/or bigotry are their gods. The problem I found was with the one line; "My eyes have seen the horrors that you Commit in the name of your god"

Nobody commits violence being driven by the thought that it is in the name of violence. This would seem to refer to an actual god. I am very curious about the writers concept. They were far too ambiguous here to determine anything, and perhaps that's what they purposed it to be; Open to interpretation.

"My eyes have seen the horrors that you commit in the name of your god"

i think this is probably about the Muslim god. the terrorists blow people up and kill in the name of Allah.

my 2 cents

But in that same respect, the Catholic Church led the crusades back in the day, which was basically devoted to slaughtering Muslims and driving them out of the holy land.

Not to mention the Spanish Inquisition. It's not just Islam that can be applied to this song. Anyone who uses their God as justifications for the evil they commit is under indictment.

Ah, Consanquinity, you beat me to it!

When I originally read the lyrics, my first thought was that Phil was referring to people that interpret religion the wrong way. i.e. cults, and/or radicals. Islamic people are not all the same and it is unfair to say that he is referring to them because a select group are using religion to incite violence on other people. The Koran and other religous texts like the Bible are misinterpreted all the time amd used to kill people en masse. On another standpoint, these lyrics could be applied to political leaders; and how some have a huge thirst for violence. Take the Holocaust as an example of that. And on an even broader standpoint, he could be speaking to any and all people who go against what they learned as children to love everyone as equals. I agree that this song is very controversial.

This song is about Islam "You worship gods of violence and bigotry" The goal of muslims is to rid this world of infidel.Because thats what their "god" tells them to do. "My eyes have seen the horrors that you Commit in the name of your god" Phil was in the Marines so what do you think he saw. My guess would be suicide bombings, women and children murdered and things like that. But its okay if your muslim thats what god tells you to do. "Your god is violence Your god is unholy"

He went through bootcamp, but never got deployed. He got discharged right out of boot pretty much. I don't remember why though...

The song meaning is very clear to me and I agree with it completely. God is corrupt. And if you believe this....

"Eyes fill with hatred (of the believers), when they fall upon you."

i agree

Ok...the song to me is about how people have their own gods they worship, whether it be a material, a famous person, or money. Notice how god is not capitalized, which means Phil is not talking about the one and only God. Phil is a Christian and believes in God. This song isn't saying that God is unholy...it is saying that so many people worship things in this world that are unholy and not God.
