Hey Jupiter (The Dakota version) Lyrics
No-one's picking up the phone
Guess it's me and me
And this little masochist
Is ready to confess
All the things
That I thought that she could never feel and...
Hey Jupiter
Nothing's been the same
So, are you gay?
Are you blue?
Thought we both could use a friend to run to
Sometimes I breathe you in
And I know you know
And sometimes you take a swim
Found your writing on my wall
If my heart's soaking wet
Boy, your boots can leave a mess
Hey Jupiter
Nothing's been the same to
So, are you gay?
Are you blue?
Thought we both could use a friend to run to
Ooh
Yes
Ooh
And he isn't you...
No-one's picking up the phone
Guess it's clear he's gone
And this little masochist
Is lifting up her dress
Guess I thought I could never feel
The thing I feel and...
Hey Jupiter
Nothing's been the same
So, are you gay?
Are you blue?
Thought we both could use a friend to run to
I thought I wouldn't have to keep with you
Hiding
Ooh
Yes
Ooh
Yes
I go from day to day
I know where the cupboards are
I know where the car is parked
I know he isn't you
Nothing is
Ooh
Yes
Ooh
Hey Jupiter
Never you
Nothing's been the same
Nothing
Nothing
Nothing's gonna save us
Never you
Guess it's me and me
And this little masochist
Is ready to confess
All the things
That I thought that she could never feel and...
Nothing's been the same
So, are you gay?
Are you blue?
Thought we both could use a friend to run to
And I know you know
And sometimes you take a swim
Found your writing on my wall
If my heart's soaking wet
Boy, your boots can leave a mess
Nothing's been the same to

Thought we both could use a friend to run to
Yes
Ooh
And he isn't you...
Guess it's clear he's gone
And this little masochist
Is lifting up her dress
Guess I thought I could never feel
The thing I feel and...
Nothing's been the same

Are you blue?

Nothing's been the same
Nothing

i really love this version of this song... probably over the album's version. what really gets me is the line: "i go from day to day. i know where the cupboards are, i know where the car is parked. i know he isn't you." that line means a lot to me. having everything around you being the same but being in love with someone else...
i prefer this version too, especially that bit. "i know he isn't you", gets me every time. she knows where everything is, but not him...and she wants him
I feel like this is part two of Hey Jupiter in the sense that she's found another after the mess with the man in the original version. But he's just another man, and feels she can't give her heart to him, even though he's given her everything. She knows where everything is in her life, except for the one she loves...this man isn't the one she wants, therefore "he isn't you".
I agree with Marjosa, that this is like the next chapter after Hey Jupiter. I have always felt like this song expresses such deep longing for the one that wasn't there. It has always sounded to me like the "Ooh"s were the sound one's heart makes when it breaking.
I agree. I think she's with another man after the break-up, and maybe some of her friends are telling her she's moving too fast; they think she's lost it. she's telling herself she isn't crazy, she's attending to all the daily things she has to do, and she's also telling herself that she knows he's not 'jupiter', she knows that, but maybe she needs him for a while to get through her sadness. i always felt like she was talking to her brain in that section, rationalising it. okay, i know i'm not crazy, and i know he's not the one, but for now, i need this...
angelrain, i love your comment about 'ooh's' being the sound of a heart breaking...that's so what they are! and yes, it's definitely part two, trying to move on, but unable...
I just love how a different sonic approach expresses another emotional story to the same situation. Understanding her work for the past two decades, you'd see that she does work well balancing the divisions within herself (her "Girls"), and there is always room for each Girl to be expressed, to have a voice.
Yes, the "ooh's" does sound like the heart breaking. I guess in heart break, there is a point when all your divisions mourn in unison.
this song is sooooo heartwrenching for me...being someone who has loved and lost and vowed to carry the torch for the rest of her life... these lyrics explain it perfectly:
"I go from day to day I know where the cupboards are I know where the car is parked I know he isn't you"
angelrain, you were spot on about those "oohs"
I really wish I could find a good version of this on youtube. :(
