In The City Lyrics
Somewhere out on that horizon
Out beyond the neon lights
I know there must be somethin' better
But there's nowhere else in sight
It's survival in the city
When you live from day to day
City streets don't have much pity
When you're down, that's where you'll stay
In the city, oh, oh.
In the city
I was born here in the city
With my back against the wall
Nothing grows and life ain't very pretty
No one's there to catch you when you fall
Somewhere out on that horizon
Faraway from the neon sky
I know there must be somethin' better
And I can't stay another night
In the city, oh, oh.
In the city
Out beyond the neon lights
I know there must be somethin' better
But there's nowhere else in sight
It's survival in the city
When you live from day to day
City streets don't have much pity
When you're down, that's where you'll stay
In the city, oh, oh.
In the city
With my back against the wall
Nothing grows and life ain't very pretty
No one's there to catch you when you fall
Somewhere out on that horizon
Faraway from the neon sky
I know there must be somethin' better
And I can't stay another night
In the city, oh, oh.

its about being stuck in a place you dont like, somewhere with no opportunity, where everyone puts you down.
I am the second verse - but the end credits of The Warriors does the song much more credit - grow up on the shore, & appreciate it - it's fab
great song, but you're right, I can't hear it without picturing the Warriors on the beach. its how I first heard this song when I was about 12. I had it on VHS. I used to play the credits all the time just to hear this song. when a buddy of mine introduced me to Limewire about 8 years ago, he let me make a fantasy CD. In The City was one of the first songs I thought of.
I agree. The song actually best fit "The Warriors", primarily because it not only reflected on the events in the film, but it basically fits the Warriors every day lives prior to, during and after the events of the film. It's still a great song to listen to.
