Paralyzer Lyrics
I hold on so nervously
To me and my drink
I wish it was cooling me
But so far, has not been good
It’s been shitty
And I feel awkward, as I should
This club has got to be
The most pretentious thing
Since I thought you and me
Well I am imagining
A dark lit place
Or your place or my place
Well I’m not paralyzed
But, I seem to be struck by you
I want to make you move
Because you’re standing still
If your body matches
What your eyes can do
You’ll probably move right through
Me on my way to you
I hold out for one more drink
Before I think
I’m looking too desperately
But so far has not been fun
I should just stay home
If one thing really means one
This club will hopefully
Be closed in three weeks
That would be cool with me
Well I’m still imagining
A dark lit place
Or your place or my place
I’m not paralyzed
But, I seem to be struck by you
I want to make you move
Because you’re standing still
If your body matches
What your eyes can do
You’ll probably move right through
Me on my way to you

This is direct from an interview with the band:
THis song is about lead singer - Scott Anderson's inability to talk to women in the clubs after there shows and at other times as well.
i think he really likes a girl by just watching and and he says he is not paralyzed he just struck by you it means he can ask her out or anything but he is struck by her
The meaning is a no brainer for people who have been into pickup.
1) "I'm not paralyzed, I seem to be struck by you..." - Doesn't have approach anxiety - she is hot. 2) "I want to make you move. Because you're standing still If your body matches what your eyes can do " - OMG, can she dance too???
Basically he's in a club, is not afraid to approach women, but is awed, and that is "paralyzed" by this one.
Why call the song Paralyzer when he says that the person hes fascinated by does not paralyze him???
Love this song... It is very sexy. I really didn't know what it was about but what you guys said really made sense! This song is going to be huge.
I don't think the "if your body matches what your eyes can do" line is sexual at all. What her "eyes can do" is stare right through this poor dude like he's not even there. He's saying to himself that if her body can do the same thing...see right through him...she'd physically pass right through him if he approached her. He's feeling like he's invisible.
The problem is, the whole song is so damn sexy, it doesn't fit the i'm-a-shy-guy part of the lyrics.
If your body matches What your eyes can do You'll probably move right through Me, on my way to you
absolutely agree.
absolutely agree.
My favorite part is the chorus - "I'm not paralyzed, but I seem to be struck by you" -- I choose to think of it as kind of, "I'm not completely in love with you, not fully shut down or anything, but there's just something about you that catches my attention." .. of course, that's probably just becuase that's how I'm feeling about someone these days ;)
i cannot figure out why they are not more popular than they are-- every song i have ever heard from them, i have LOVED, lyrics AND melody.
i don't have anything to add to the other 300 interpretations, just that i live like half an hour from their home city, and have managed to still miss EVERY concert they have played since 1998. i think it may just not be in my destiny to see them.
whoops not 300 replies-- just 73-- must be thinking of the last song i looked at.

I can answer that for you. They are too popular in my opinion--another generic, testosterone-fueled excuse for a band. Really, the only bands more popular than this garbage is shit like Nickelback and Linkin Park--all of which are in the same genre of suck. I don't know what else you want for them. They have the constant radio play, sell out pretty big venues, have gone platinum, make millions of dollars, etc. The only other thing I can think of is erecting a monument in Times Square to honor how fuckin brilliant they are. Or, we should just award them...

Or, we should just award them a Nobel Peace prize. It would make sense. Several war criminals have been rewarded that lauded prize. Why not give it to a crappy rock band led by a constipated, misogynist lead singer that makes music for people to fight to in bars?
Obviously, this guy feels uncomfortable at this club or any club (I can sympathize).
He hates the club but he's got one good reason to keep coming back.
He wishes he could get her attention, make his move, and finish the night with a happy ending.
This girl has his attention in a way no one else has come close to achieving.
I think this is reversed for the sake of poetic rhythm and he means to make her move in other ways... :p
If her gaze is so overwhelming, he can only imagine what the rest of her body could do to him.
He fears that whatever move he makes will fail to get her attention.
His staring might get her attention in a bad way.
He's starting to wonder why he bothers and why he's torturing himself by coming back.
If the club close, it will break the cycle and his obsession wouldn't be fed.
Of course he still wants to get her in the sack.
Here's what the song says to me:
The maine protaganist (character) keeps going to clubs but he has no idea why because as soon as he arrives he is at a loss for what to do and thusly feels awkward ("I feel awkward as I should"). He stays the entire night ("I hold out for one more drink") and prolongs that awkward feeling. He often notices a woman that he is interested in talking with but due to the awkward feeling, he's never made a move (perhaps the same woman every time because she's a regular at the club in question?). She never really notices him and just walks right past him each time ("If your body matches what your eyes can do, youd probably move right through me on my way to you"). Apparently she's so beautifull that she "paralyzes" him eache time he sees her.
He's probably just one of those guys who has issues taking to women although he's a really nice/sweet guy once you get to know him, you know the kind I mean...
