Hold on to the miracle of life...

Sacred lives emotions been washed away like mud.
You don't want my devotion;
You'd rather be washed in blood.
Can we turn away from this open anger?
Can it all betray?
Can't you feel the danger to the miracle of life.

Sing when open hearts are calling,
Shout with open eyes (To the miracle of life)
Far below the deepest treasure
To the miracle of life

Living in times of luster, waiting for the flood.
We don't agree with your concepts;
You'd rather be washed in blood.
Is it any wonder? (In my lifetime)
Cold depth of blue water...
Is it any wonder? (In my lifetime)
Rising tide to slaughter...

Sing when open hearts are calling,
Shout with open eyes (To the miracle of life)
Far below your deepest pleasure
To the miracle of life
Pacifica... Indian... Atlantica... Antarctica

"Washed in blood" is a Christian reference. It is a euphemism for being born again (i.e. washed in the blood of Jesus.) If that's the intended meaning, this song appears to be a rejection of Christianity. Or, at least how it is all-too-often practised. (That is, being judgemental of others, rather than being in a state of simple, child-like appreciation of God's wonders, and the miracle of simply being alive.)

Or it could mean something else altogether. Who the hell knows? It's Yes, after all! I never know what ANY of their lyrics mean...I just love their music.

In my humble opinion, the artistry and complexity of the music, and the virtuoso musicianship of each member of Yes, makes them the standard for all progressive bands...all their drama, personnel changes, and changes in musical style over the years notwithstanding.

This is song is about the destruction of the ocean ecosystems by the industrial fishing industry. The first lyric on this page is incorrect-- it's not "sacred lives emotion," it's "sacred lives of oceans being washed away like mud." The logic rest of the lyric proceeds from this first line. I gave up eating fish back in the 1970s because of this, and never returned to it.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
