Bittersweet Lyrics

I've been carryin' this old luggage
And it's been really buggin'
So when you called to see me
I couldn't believe it
Could it really be

You need to feel forgiveness
I need to feel resentment
Running down the drain
This bruising chain I've carried
Is the pain that I am burying today

Now I can breathe
And I feel grace rush over me
It pours through my skin
And let's you in
And we are free
Now I can breathe
And I feel grace
Rush over me
It runs through my veins
And what I taste is bittersweet

The clock is always ticking
Bitterness grows by the minute
Why can't we realize?
The wounds that we're inflicting
On our own flesh
It isn't healing
By keeping love inside

Now I can breathe
And I feel grace rush over me
It pours through my skin
And let's you in
And we are free
Now I can breathe
And I feel grace
Rush over me
It runs through my veins
And what I taste is bittersweet

Cover art for Bittersweet lyrics by Plumb

I think this song is about someone holding a grudge against someone else for a long, long time, and she finally forgives them and how that feels. "what I taste is bittersweet" could mean that it is bitersweet to let something go, because it is, in my opinion. It's freeing but also constricting. You have to really forgive them and that's hard(bitter), but you can be friends again. And that is very sweet.
