Better Than Nothing Lyrics
I don't want to have to build this
I don't want to have to fit in
I don't want to have to need someone
but I do
I don't want to have to attract boys
I don't want to have to be here
I don't want to have to eat to fill a hole
but I do
But it's better than nothing at all
But it's better than nothing at all
I don't want to have to be angry at you
I don't want to have to blame it on my father
I don't want to feel sick around you
but I do
I don't want to ever fall in love
I don't want to feel so insecure
I don't want to have to write this to explain
Still I do
This feels better than nothing at all
This feels better than nothing at all
I don't want to have to fit in
I don't want to have to need someone
but I do
I don't want to have to be here
I don't want to have to eat to fill a hole
but I do
But it's better than nothing at all
I don't want to have to blame it on my father
I don't want to feel sick around you
but I do
I don't want to feel so insecure
I don't want to have to write this to explain
Still I do
This feels better than nothing at all

i hate feeling this way.
I saw an interview where Maria said that she only writes her songs about things in her own life and I really respect that. This one is so sad, but it's really beautiful too
To me this is about how day to day living can get really hard when you go through certain things, here it seems like she is talking about her parents divorce and her ED; but it could be interpreted with many things, and how they can effect other parts of your life. Things that should be easy become so difficult. 'Better than nothing' is maybe a very small piece of optimism, telling yourself at least you're still able to feel something.
I think it's simply this: she wishes that her life had been different, but when it comes down to it at least she is alive.
