The Prayer Lyrics
Lord give me grace and dancing feet
And the power to impress
Lord give me grace and dancing feet
Let me outshine the moon
Is it so wrong to crave recognition?
Second best, runner-up
Is it so wrong to want rewarding?
To want more than is given to you?
Than is given to you
Tonight make me unstoppable
And I will charm, I will slice
I will dazzle them with my wit
Tonight make me unstoppable
And I will charm, I will slice
I will dazzle, I will outshine them all
Standing on the packed dance floor
Our bodies thrown in time
Silent on the weekdays
Tonight I claim what's mine
Is it so wrong to crave recognition?
Second best, runner-up
Is it so wrong to want rewarding?
To want more than is given to you?
Than is given to you
Tonight make me unstoppable
And I will charm, I will slice
I will dazzle them with my wit
Tonight make me unstoppable
And I will charm, I will slice
I will dazzle, I will outshine them all
Tonight make me unstoppable
And I will charm, I will slice
I will dazzle them with my wit
Tonight make me unstoppable
And I will charm, I will slice
I will dazzle, I will outshine them all
And the power to impress
Lord give me grace and dancing feet
Let me outshine the moon
Second best, runner-up
Is it so wrong to want rewarding?
To want more than is given to you?
Than is given to you
And I will charm, I will slice
I will dazzle them with my wit
Tonight make me unstoppable
And I will charm, I will slice
I will dazzle, I will outshine them all
Our bodies thrown in time
Silent on the weekdays
Tonight I claim what's mine
Second best, runner-up
Is it so wrong to want rewarding?
To want more than is given to you?
Than is given to you
And I will charm, I will slice
I will dazzle them with my wit
Tonight make me unstoppable
And I will charm, I will slice
I will dazzle, I will outshine them all
And I will charm, I will slice
I will dazzle them with my wit
Tonight make me unstoppable
And I will charm, I will slice
I will dazzle, I will outshine them all

In my humble opinion, this is not a song laden with sarcasm, it is a song laden with brutal honesty. Honesty of which everyone knows but is afraid to admit: impressing our peers is what, ultimately, we all aim to achieve on a night out in the town/club.
knowing that you possess the ability to 'charm, slice and dazzle them with your wit' , but having perhaps maybe a speach impediment holding you back from displaying your true colours, would annoy anyone.
this, is a prayer of confidence.
to develop the energy from inside of the body, giving strength to the outer body
to develop the energy from inside of the body, giving strength to the outer body
I think this song has to deal with nihilistic themes along with modern day pop culture. How society is slowly drifting away from faith based ideas and starving for fame since our moments on earth is all we have and we have to make the most of it. Starving for recognition, to always be remembered with the little time we have on earth.
To 'ROCKOWNTZU'. I would just like to tell you, incase you had not noticed, that this site is called 'SongMeanings' so that should in te first place give you a clue as to what this site is about. But from your comment I guess that you don't understand. I will explain for you. This is a site where we talk about what songs mean. I'm sorry but I don't know how to explain it simpler. Forgive me if you still do not understands. Seems as though you are in the minority of people, oh no, perhaps just yourself, that do not actually understand what this site is about. If it wasn't already obvious enough, just above the comment box it says: 'What does this song mean to you?' thus suggesting that we write what the song means to you. I'm stating the obvious really, but you cannot seem to see it. We will therefore continue to talk and debate about the songs. We will also talk about whether we like it or not in our explanation. To be honest, a song can't really mean mush to you if you don't like it. Therefore, it is safe to assume that most people do like the song they are commenting on. I hope this puts your mind at rest and you understand this site. I will be surprised if you managed to read this as you cannot even spell or write properly yourself. I usually have pity for people like you.
Quite simply, this song is about pulling in a club, and the ultimate goal of this being sex.
Everything supports this. You can't pull a member of the opposite sex by being second best, you have to be the very best.
"Lord give me grace and dancing feet And the power to impress Lord give me grace and dancing feet Let me outshine the moon"
I'm attracted to girls who can dance well- I don't give a second look at the girl who's slow dancing out of time in the middle of a rave. He therefore prays to God to "impress" the girls (boys in kele's case) with his "dancing feet". He needs to be noticed, and what is more noticeable than an extra bright dancing moon?
"Is it so wrong to crave recognition? Second best, runner-up Is it so wrong to want rewarding? To want more than is given to you? Than is given to you"
As previously mentioned, he needs to be the best to get the person's attention. In reference to "more that is given to you" I think that it's either that you just get checked out or get a kiss without anything else coming your way.
As for the chorus, he wants to be unstoppable (in sexual terms, I think that this is pretty self-explanatory, if you catch my drift), and wants to use his "wit" and "charm" to attract the attention.
I won't go into any more detail apart from the "claiming what's mine". If you follow my theory, then he has already got a person who he wants in mind, and wants to "claim" them.
I know that songs are all about personal interpretation, so don't go by what I say.
I am right though :P
Absolutely amazing song, great chorus especially!
imo the ultimate going out and partying song =)
reallllly good song! its my myspace song :D
Deserving recognition and craving to impress. All about being the person that everyone can't stop watching.
I love this song and it makes me really excited for the new album.
great song. can really identify with it. for me its about someone whos a bit socially unsure, who know they can be charming etc but cant always articulate it, but you pray that on the night you will shine. possibily with the help of alcohol...
good song, a different sound for them from silent alarm as a whole, but good. kinda reminds me of tv on the radio.
The empathy the song has makes it that much greater. Everyone can relate to the desire to do just one thing right for a night, to impress everyone and be on the top of their game. Oh yeah, and Bloc Party absolutely rules, so that doesn't hurt it.
I'm really happy the song turned out so well. Lately it seems like many bands have a decent debut then fade away; that clearly won't happen to Bloc Party.
