Wedding/Funeral Lyrics

This is for your wedding/funeral day
You always liked to be the center of attention
So here you are
Dressed so beautiful, just like I remember
Always outshining the rest
Sun, moon, and stars
You face looks so content as I walk to find a chair
Just a few feet away, but miles apart

Why did I let you go?
How could I let you leave my side?
Would have been something amazing
Should have been wild
Why did I let you go?
How could I let you leave my side?
Would have been something amazing
Should have been wild and learned

I'm a great burning lament to this day
But I realize now you're in a better place
Hands will tremble as you're lowered down the aisle
But you won't look at me
Not so much as smile
I want to stand up and speak my peace
And let your hollow pieces walk away

Why did I let you go?
How could I let you leave my side?
Would have been something amazing
Should have been wild
Why did I let you go and let you leave my side?
Would have been something
Should have been wild
Why did I let you go?
How could I let you leave my side?
Would have been something amazing
Should have been wild
Why did I let you go?
How could I let you leave my side?
Should have been something
Should have been wild and learned

Yeah, a lot of you are missing the point of the title. The funeral parts arent being used as a metaphor, its like Nitescreen said, its for either her wedding or her funeral. which it is doesn't matter. I do think that the first verse is supposed to sound more like a wedding and the second is supposed to sound more like a funeral, but he wrote it so that it would work for either.

Now that I see these lyrics I feel such a great sadness I think stephen christian is an amazing This song is obviously about "the one that got away" as circa_survive_qreen said And the funeral part in the title is about her love being dead. Not how I would say it but more like the man she is going to marry is the death of her life. Or this wedding is the killing then one who LET her get away. When it says

"You're lowered down the aisle"

That makes me think of people whoa re dead being lowered into the ground, so it must be about her [the funeral part] And this song is . . . .captivating. Most definitely

i've always taken it as he is attending either her wedding or her funeral. it doesn't matter to him which he is attending....cause in the long run he let her go and his time has run out.

Its about letting her go. As she is "lowered down the asile" referring to her "funeral". He is still in love wth this woman, yet she is marrying another man.

"I want to stand up and speak my peace And let your hollow pieces walk away."

In my perspective, he wants to confess his ongoing love to her and make her realize he's still cares. By letting her hollow pieces walk away, makes it appear like she's almost stuck between him and the new love. By hearing him say such things at such an event would probably crush her as well. It's almost like it's not just one-sided.

Wedding/Funeral seems to be the wedding of a past love (self-explanitory). Funeral is referring to a closure to their love, by letting her go (to be married to someone else). I suspect this because he says, "But you won't look at me, Not so much as smile." To me, she's still alive, at her wedding, and she's so caught up in the excitement of being at her wedding (walking down the aisle), that she's probably trying to avoid making eye contact with him.

This is definitely a heartfelt song. Something so passionate doesn't come from just anywhere.

"You're lowered down the aisle"

Stepping down from the alter, possibly being lowered by the newly wed's husband.

The creepy thing (maybe not creepy. just interesting) is that it could either be for a wedding OR a funeral. Codyhill06 was right about the passion. The love for this woman is amazing, and his voice is so passionate about losing her.

isn't that amazing? as a song for a wedding, it is bittersweet. but as a song for a funeral, he's glad she is in the right place. the same words for the different situations bring completely different emotions!
