Despair is for people who know, beyond any doubt,
what the future is going to bring.
Nobody is in that position.
So despair is not only a kind of sin, theologically,

For those who haven't picked up on it yet, the line "we're not just a moment in time" may be in reference to the opening line of Alternative 4 (as in the album), "we are just a moment in time".
This song seem very personal to Vincent or Daniel (I don't know who's the lyrics author). Many of Anathema's songs are pretty nostalgic and they seem to deal with being trapped in memories, memories that make you sad, that don't let you live, this song speaks about how you must take control of your life and make sacrifices that may seem as "mistakes" but that will set you free from the memories that trapped you, all those thoughts that caged you. I say this song is so personal to them because it seems like they've been moving on from their problems, looking at the phrase "We're not just a moment in time" which oppose to what they said in the song Shroud of False, seems they've been changing their minds and finding some peace in their new beliefs.
I think it says about facing his (or someone's) difficulties and awful past. "you don't need to be a slave of memory ensnared in a web, in a cage" - there are so many things in the past that might let us down. We have to forget mistakes made in past and try to enjoy the present, try to take a risk, not to be afraid of new mistakes. They happen but they shouldn't be ensanred in our past. They're temporary.
