Awake Lyrics
A beautiful and blinding morning
The world outside begins to breathe
See clouds arriving without warning
I need you here
To shelter me
And I know that only time tell us how
To carry on without each other
So keep me awake to memorize you
Give me more time to feel this way
We can't stay like this forever
But I can have you next to me today
If I could make these moments endless
If I could stop the winds of change
If we just keep our eyes wide open
Then everything would stay the same
And I know that only time tell me how
We'll carry on without each other
So keep me awake for every moment
And give us more time to be this way
We can't stay like this forever
But I can have you next to me today
We'll have tomorrow wait
You're here right now with me
And all my fears just following
When you are all I see
We can't stay like this forever
But I have you here today
(Awake)
And I will remember
Oh, will you remember
Remember all the love we shared today
The world outside begins to breathe
See clouds arriving without warning
I need you here
To shelter me
To carry on without each other
So keep me awake to memorize you
Give me more time to feel this way
We can't stay like this forever
But I can have you next to me today
If I could stop the winds of change
If we just keep our eyes wide open
Then everything would stay the same
We'll carry on without each other
So keep me awake for every moment
And give us more time to be this way
We can't stay like this forever
But I can have you next to me today
You're here right now with me
And all my fears just following
When you are all I see
But I have you here today
Oh, will you remember

I read in an interview that Josh wrote this for his family and all the times they have spent together.
I think the song is about family, or about any kind fo relationship that you love and want to keep going forever, yet know that you can't. Someday it will all end, but all you want is to keep feeling this way forever. It's a beautiful song, but also kind of sad....knowing that this wonderful feeling or love will one day be gone.
I love this song...Josh wrote this himself...it's amazing!
My wife got me to listen to this song. I'm in the Air Force, currently away from her in South Korea for a year. It perfectly describes my emotions/feelings that day before I had to say goodbye to her and my kids. I'm not a fan of Groban, but this particular song hits home.
Josh's explanation of this song was just simply that he had gone on a vacation with his family and during their time together he realized their lives were changing and so he would say to himself, "remember this, remember this." Thus came the song - one that speaks of the special bond between family, special times, and some sadness at the winds of change.
But it's obvious that the words means something different to each one of us, and speak to what's in our hearts. It's a treasure.
This song reminds me of a man I care a lot about, and a morning we spent together before he left for the marines. Knowing that morning would come, and not wanting it to, but knowing it's inevitable. Just cherishing those moments together. Counting down the moments til change arrives. He's out there now, somewhere. I never got to tell him how much I really do care about him.
Love this song, so much.
No matter who the person (or people) are, it's about moments passing, and wanting time to stop, yet knowing it can't, and that changes will happen. Just remember and cherish the moments you have with the ones you love. Hold them close to your heart.
i love this song so much, its about people who love each other and are going to part but have one last day together. josh groban has such and amazing voice, it makes the song so great. i cant wait to see him live on 2/20/07!!!
Think of that day as our time alive. What if he's wrong?
i think its about this girl and he knows that it is going down hil but he shouldnt be sad about the time apart, but he should be happy for the time they have left
During the "winds of change" part, I can hear those Cold War-era songs' drums/electrical representations of drums in the background. I remember that there is a song about winds of change (about Communist governments falling in Eastern Europe) that also heavily used such drums in the background.
Are they connected? If you have no idea about those drums, try listening to Billy Joel's Leningrad. There's another Cold War-era song but I forgot its title.
You may be onto something there. The song you're referring to is a favourite of mine: "Winds of Change" by The Scorpions. It was heavily played around the time the Berlin Wall fell. I LOVE that song!!!

I picture this as someone has been diagnosed with cancer (clouds arriving without warning) and the person they love wants to stay awake to spend every moment that they have left together. They know that they can only treasure today because they do not know what tomorrow may bring. Beautiful Song!
This song really hits home for me, being in a long distance relationship, only being able to see my love a few times a year. This song just describes those last mornings we spend together so perfectly.
