Wash away the thoughts inside
That keep my mind away from you
No more love and no more pride
And thoughts are all I have to do

Ooh remember when it rained
I felt the ground and look up high
And called your name
Ooh remember when it rained
In the darkness I remain

Tears of hope run down my skin
Tears for you that will not dry
They magnify the one within
And let the outside slowly die

Ooh remember when it rained
I felt the ground and looked up high
And called your name
Ooh remember when it rained
In the water I remain

Running down

Oh oh oh
No no no
Oh oh oh, running down

General CommentMy friend explicated this song in an english paper and his take on it was so astonishing. I don't know if it's exactly the meaning of the song, but it is what the song means to him. His idea was that the song was completely spiritual. The idea was focusing only on God and the water and cleansing symbolizes baptism and being forgiven of sins. I wish I could post his paper word for word as it was amazing. I'd never looked at the song that way before.

General CommentThe first time I heard this song I thought of it as spiritual myself. To me, I see a person who has lived a life of sin and is stricken with quilt so much that it brings them to there knees for forgiveness. The rain signifies the washing away of an old life and the start of a new. "they magnify the one with in, let the outside slowly die"

General Commentonly Christians so devout can turn this song into something so spiritual. I never thought of it that way. The song is just gorgeous and it makes it even more beautiful that it can be translated to suit anyone.

General CommentRemember when it Rains is not the correct song title. This slight variation in tense usage can alter the meaning a bit. The correct title: Remember When it Rained. (as in past tense).
In my view, Groban is making reference to a time when the love and "pride" (confidence, security, at peace and feeling of being "on top of the world, I can do anything" a man feels when he has that area fulfilled)was present in his heart in abundance and poured into his heart and life - that moisturizes and replenishes a specific dry barrenness in the absence of love and companionship. He is remembering that time of "rain"....and then, with a twist of the meaning (clever), sheds a light on the now "down" side of the rain; as it has transitioned from a refreshing rush of love...to tears of loss and aloneness. Also a "drowning" in sorrow, so to speak; while making reference to remaining in the "dark" and "water"....and this sorrow and pain and still remaining gush of love (unrequited) now "running down" like the tears he feels inside as well as the external ones do. He is contrasting the experience of the "rain" in an allegorical form - before & then now. The love or friend is gone from that wonderful rain, yet, he remains behind in that love - still loving, still longing, but now alone in it with stormy darkness (signifies a dark time of pain & sadness, confusion) and the rush (running down) of sorrow and aloneness in that rain water. My take.

General CommentI LOVE THIS SONG! I fell in love with it the first time I heard it. I think it's talking about someone who's lost someone they love, either by death, or if in lovers relationship, by breaking up. "Wash away the thoughts inside that keep my mind away from you." They don't want to think about anybody or anything except for the one they love and lost. It's so sad and so powerful.

General CommentI don't think they want to block all other thoughts from there mind, they just don't want to have all the barriers set up to protect themselves against the hurt anymore. They don't want their pride or anything get in the way. And the only thing they have to remember that person by are those unbarred thoughts and memories.
