Techno Ted may be a person who caused Chris incredible emotional pain & trepidation as well as moments of peace & happiness but now is removed and awaiting his fate. Darling may be a different person who is also free of him and can live her life free of Ted's tyranny. "In between all the laughing, and daydreams ... lies: a desert of truth" Lies are like a desert or the omission of Truth: Where there were Lies then Truth was absent. The song, "Techno Ted", may be a cathartic celebration of the downfall of this person.
Jesus Christ, that's a pretty face
The kind you'd find on someone I could save
If they don't put me away
Well, it'll be a miracle
Do you believe you're missing out
That everything good is happening somewhere else?
But with nobody in your bed
The night's hard to get through
And I will die all alone
And when I arrive, I won't know anyone
Well, Jesus Christ, I'm alone again
So what did you do those three days you were dead?
Cause this problem's gonna last more than the weekend
Well, Jesus Christ, I'm not scared to die
I'm a little bit scared of what comes after
Do I get the gold chariot?
Do I float through the ceiling?
Do I divide and fall apart?
Cause my bright is to slight to hold back all my dark
And the ship went down in sight of land
And at the gates does Thomas ask to see my hands?
I know you'll come in the night like a thief
But I've had some time alone to hone my lying technique
I know you think that I'm someone you can trust
But I'm scared I'll get scared, and I swear I'll try to nail you back up
So, do you think that we could work out a sign
So I'll know it's you and that it's over so I won't even try?
I know you'll come for the people like me
But we all got wood and nails
Tongue tied to a hating factory
But we all got wood and nails
And we turn out hate in factories
Yeah, we all got wood and nails
And we turn out hate in factories
Yeah, we all got wood and nails
And we sleep inside of this machine
The kind you'd find on someone I could save
If they don't put me away
Well, it'll be a miracle
Do you believe you're missing out
That everything good is happening somewhere else?
But with nobody in your bed

And I will die all alone

Fortnight

Taylor Swift
The song 'Fortnight' by Taylor Swift and Post Malone tells a story about strong feelings, complicated relationships, and secret wishes. It talks about love, betrayal, and wanting someone who doesn't feel the same. The word 'fortnight' shows short-lived happiness and guilty pleasures, leading to sadness. It shows how messy relationships can be and the results of hiding emotions. “I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me,” she kickstarts the song in the first verse with lines suggesting an admission to a hospital for people with mental illnesses. She goes in the verse admitting her lover is the reason why she is like this. In the chorus, she sings about their time in love and reflects on how he has now settled with someone else. “I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary / And I love you, it’s ruining my life,” on the second verse she details her struggles to forget about him and the negative effects of her failure. “Thought of callin’ ya, but you won’t pick up / ‘Nother fortnight lost in America,” Post Malone sings in the outro.

In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
Blue
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
First of all, why does every song ever written have to be about a girl? And why is it so ridiculous that someone with a strongly religious background would write a song reflect his inner thoughts about God? Really? All those biblical references for a song about some random girl? I might be prejudiced... but I feel like I know what this song because I can relate to Jesse's upbringing: a Christian family. And like him, I don't follow the beliefs of my family. But if you've never had that experience, of course you reject the possibility he's musing about religion. If you hate religion, you don't want to believe that he can have a softer side toward it, that he can muse about believing it or not, because you don't. You can do terrible things, but still have moments where you sit and ponder jesus death. I think that's exactly what created this song, a feeling that his old beliefs are still there in this heart, dormant but alive, and wondering while Christ would even want him anymore.
Why does every song have to be taken so literal? The entire theme of this album is the conflict of the good and bad within and all the emotions that follow. Metaphors and themes have been very prevalent in his lyrics in every single one of their songs. Like Play Crack the Sky relating a bad relationship to a sinking ship.
Yeah, DarthRaider is right. Plus, he DOES make a reference to how he can't find love. "With nobody in your bed, the night's hard to get through." You think he's tryna tap Jesus? I don't think this song is completely about a girl. Like others have said here, it's about depression. But one of the topics briefly touched upon is the lack of a love life.
@waterlilies18 This is so not about a girl. Some people……
This song is about him having a conversation with God about life as we know it and wondering what happens when we arrive at a final destination, in life, and particularly death. HIs desperation for a meaning of life and seeks to find the answer with God.
@waterlilies18 I have to agree with you, most times a songs meaning is very straigtforward and literal, especially to the writer. We think its subjective (up to interpretation) because we dont know the authors meaning. Jesse knew what he meant and what he was writinng about, and thats what we're trying to decipher. Were not here to find out how the lyrics relate to each persons life. The singer sings about god and heaven and the song name is jesus christ. Its not open to interpretation objectively speaking. I know that singing about god and christ makes some people uncomfortable but that is clearly what the song is about, you cant just omit God from the song as a creative perspective, its literally wrong and thats not what Brand New wrote about, The song has a very straightforward meaning and I think that Mugidora and Musiea have fairly close song descriptions.
@waterlilies18 I don’t understand how anyone could think this song is about a girl. This is about internal struggle with words so eloquently written I’d be depressed that I couldn’t hear it after an apocalypse.
@jdjd021

Actually, I believe the bit about the bed is referring to Jesus living a life of a celibacy. He had no wife and therefore Jesse is asking, 'don't you get lonely?' He switches between talking to Jesus and talking to himself throughout the song. That's how it sounds in my opinion.
