It's about a funeral. The band is the music they play at funerals. You tap leather to get through it. You are afraid to cry to show any weakness. In short its feeling pain but being unable to express it.
I think the lyrics signify strength and appreciating the little things. In the beginning he talks about how you can't cry and you have to be strong when something bad happens, and then he speaks of sitting back and relaxing through life.
Also, it sounds like he's struggling with finding his own music style -- even though the lyrics ARE amazing.
this is one of my favorites, even though it's less than 2 minutes. i dont know, it's just really pretty.
