I Can Barely Breathe Lyrics

When the dark flood came
We wrapped ourselves inside a dirty blanket
Citing different opinions
On whether we should move

When the houses came
They ate up everyone like they were fishes
Saying, "Come on, come on
It's the end of the world"

And then I saw your face
You're turnin' skin into a dirty secret
I watched the beauties, watched the fire
And the fire burn the beauty in their eyes

When I took the blame
We laid in ruins tryin' to quote your phrase
We're yelling, "Someone's got the answers,
But I'd rather think there's nothing to be found"

If you knew I was dyin' would it change you?
If you knew I was dyin' would it change?
If you knew I was dyin' would it change you?
If you knew I was dyin' would it change anything?

So when you see me falling backwards
Down the wall that says, ?I'm still alive?
Don't be cautious when I'm cautiously
Approachin' on the other side

Ya everybody has their reasons
That's the reason we're all gonna die
Because if seein' is believin'
Then believe that we have lost our eyes

'Cause when I fly solo I fly so high
'Cause when I fly solo I fly so high
'Cause when I fly solo I fly so high
'Cause when I fly solo I fly so high
I fly so high, don't touch me now

We all deserve
We all deserve something

I do think this song is about our culture, and the ways we destroy ourselves. "When the houses came" could be overdevelopment, consumerist culture. "turning skin into a dirty secret" could be plastic surgery, makeup, etc. I think "everybody has their reasons, that's the reason we're all gonna die" is a comment about looking out for only yourself, and not the greater good.

The last time I saw these guys live, Andy said "This is a song about the 'pocalypse"...and then the rocking commenced.

Seriously everyone; every single song on this website has clueless people saying this song is about a break up, not every song ever made is about a break up you overly dramatic teenagers.

Most of Andy Hull's lyrics aren't about relationship break ups most are about his relationship with god or his close friends/family and touring this song how ever is a bit different very metaphorical but the meaning was there the guy talking about war was the closest.

The song is written in first person from the planet Earth, the line everyones trying to quote your phrase if some ones got the answers id rather think theres nothing to be found etc is about how in society we all turn a blind eye to how we destroy the earth we don't want to look for problems because we're to consumed by the pursuit of material happiness at the expense of mother nature. If you knew I was dying would it change you is self explanatory obviously would we actually change as whole if every single one of us was aware of how dire our dilemma is? Andy knows that the answer is no and thus it used almost sarcastically.

'don't be cautious when I'm cautiously approaching on the other side' is the idea that we are not slowing down or being cautious with our mass consumption even though the earth is approaching the end when it is no longer sustainable for us we take no care in what we do and how we do it we just do it because everybody does it that's what this song is about. Clue up its not omg you broke my heart but now I'm happy we don't fuck.

i love love love this song.. to me, its about making the most of life. don't rely on everybody else and restrict yourself to only what you know. there's not always an answer to everything, and sometimes, you just gotta take risks. some people believe the other, and turn ugly, thus burning the beauty from their eyes. they dont see what he sees, the freedom and happiness.

manchester orchestra is amazing

"someone's got the answers, but i'd rather think there's nothing to be found"

this is incredible.

i love when he says, "so when you see me falling backwards down the wall that says i'm still alive.." just the way he says it.

am i just going too farfetched when i say there might be religious undertones?

not at all. most manchester orchestra songs have them.

this is a post-apocalyptic memoir of someone who died during the trials in revelation.

I love this song.

I used it as music/presentation on global warming.

and I had half the class crying.

@BrandNewBrittany Yeah I highly doubt that

the whole album seems to follows along with the same concept of the d&g. the whole inner battle between right & wrong, struggling with faith and personal beliefs, etc.

i also see a lot of NMH influence in this album.

that's just my take. disagree if you'd like.
